I don't know. Why would Allioti leave Oregon to coach at a program that just went 1-11? Does that make any sense?

And Gregory is now available. He won't be retained at BSU.

Although I generally prefer a BBDB defense, I don't it fits our offense, which keeps the defense on the field too long as it is.

I think an all or nothing defense is better for this team.

he may have started out that way, but the ducks defense has been anything but bend but dont break the last 5 or so years.

Two things:

1. Allioti was never a difference maker. He got much better later in his career when the offense (Chip's offense) started to put games away early...(like 42-0 in the 2nd qtr)...your defense can really tee off when the offense has put the game away so early.

2. Oregon's rise (in the last 5 years especially) resulted in them getting better players on defense to go to Eugene.

Pendergast wants an NFL job, and always has. The only reason he came to Cal was to be a DC.
He had been the DC at the AZ Cardinals (and a Super Bowl), and was let go. He was with the Raiders as DB coach briefly, but left to come here believing the DC job would lead back to the NFL. It hasn't so far, but it might now.
Pendergast does not like recruiting, either. If the right NFL job opens up, that's what he wants. Living in Eugene and recruiting is not his dream job. If he ends up there its because his first choice isn't available.

Pendy doesn't recruit. He'll get another shot at the NFL.
