The Pac-12 Conference announced today its 2014 football schedule that pairs a competitive nine-game Conference schedule with a non-conference slate of 13 games versus teams that participated in bowl games following the 2013 season. Highlighting the non-conference schedule is five contests against Big Ten Conference opponents, including the reigning Rose Bowl champion, three games with Notre Dame and a neutral site matchup between UCLA and Texas.

In addition, traditional rivalry games will be played over the last two weeks of the season, followed by the Pac-12 Football Championship Game on Friday, December 5.

"The depth of our Conference will be on display every week next season," said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. "Coming off a record nine teams competing in this year's bowl season, next season's nine-game Conference schedule will be the toughest in the nation."

The season gets under way with three games on Thursday, August 28, as Arizona State hosts Weber State, Utah hosts Idaho State, and Washington State hosts Rutgers in Seattle. The second week of the season will feature Oregon hosting Rose Bowl champion Michigan State, while USC visits Stanford to open Conference play.

Every football game played at Pac-12 sites will be televised. A combination of the ESPN channels, ABC, FOX and FOX Sports 1 will broadcast 44 games nationally and Pac-12 Networks will offer 35 games to a national audience. Exact broadcast schedules will be determined at a later date.

"Pac-12 football will once again take center stage for a national audience next season on ESPN, FOX, and Pac-12 Networks," said Scott. "Fans are set to enjoy more coverage of their favorite teams as well as increased access to behind-the-scenes coverage and analysis on Pac-12 Networks."

The 2014 Conference schedule features four Thursday night dates that includes key league matchups between UCLA at Arizona State on September 25, Arizona at Oregon on October 2, Utah at Oregon State on October 16, and California at USC on November 13. In addition, the schedule's four games on three Friday dates feature Washington State at Stanford on October 10, Oregon at California on October 24, Stanford at UCLA and Arizona State at Arizona in the Territorial Cup the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 28.

The decision was made to schedule the cross-division Stanford at UCLA game on the final week of the 2014 season in keeping with the terms of future scheduling commitments approved by the Pac-12 Directors of Athletics to maintain the late-season games between Stanford/USC and Notre Dame.

Placing the Stanford at UCLA game on Friday, November 28, 2014, will allow Stanford and UCLA to play their 12 games over a 14-week period (two bye weeks; the same as the other Pac-12 institutions playing 12 regular-season games) and does not provide them a bye the week prior to the Pac-12 Championship Football Game. It also provides UCLA the opportunity to host a special date game on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

The Pac-12 Football Championship Game will once again be played on the home field of the team with the best overall Conference record. For the third time in four years, the game will be played on a Friday and will be televised by FOX.

We have BYU after playing them and they end with Ucla

It's unfortunate that our bye comes after our "easy" game (if I read the schedule correctly), but we clearly have bigger fish to fry.

Me likey. There's at least 4 Saturdays during the season where I won't be saddened by a loss.

Cal and Furd don't want to play over Thanksgiving, thus the non-rivalry final game.

Just discovered that if the new DC had been in charge during the 2013 season and was a competent intelligent coach and had been able to merely halve the number of points our opponents scored, we would have a 6-6 record. Not great, but sure beats the actual result.

Something to look forward to in 2014.

Only two non Saturday games. Maybe the rest will kick off after 7:30.

I love this schedule. It's the best I've seen in years.

Bye on Sept. 13, before we play AZ
we play the easier teams of the conference early. A chance for some wins.
7 home games.
only 6 days between UCLA and Oregon at Levi, but that isn't too bad.
Another BYE on Nov. 8,
SC on the 13th, so we have plenty of time to get prepared and injuries healed.
Furd on the 22nd, another extended period before we play them. Time to heal up.
Finish with BYU and a chance for another victory.

Two BYEs; extended time between games; easier opponents early on; and seven home games. Now that's a good schedule!

Schedule is not so bad the first half of the season, but brutal in the back half. We better start out strong, or else ....

It's actually in the Pac 12 bylaws that Cal and Stanford cannot play over Thanksgiving weekend. So it's more than clear how both schools feel about playing that weekend - I'm sure that wasn't an easy concession from Scott and the rest of the league. Scott and the P12 aren't doing this to us. We requested it.

The crying about not playing furd last really has to stop. I mean in any season, the goal is actually to finish up with a conference opponent in the CCG. Then if we win that, we may or may not go to the Rose Bowl depending on the rankings and rotation. Yep the tradition is gone there too.

No real complaints about the schedule. Though three straight games in Oct might be hard to swing for those coming from out of town.

I like how if we clinch a berth in the Pac-12 Championship game, we'll have the option of resting our starters against a non-conference opponent in BYU for the last game of the season.

I noticed that too. Everything is setting up nicely for a Rose Bowl berth next year. :p

This schedule is a big improvement over recent years imo.

2 byes are essential. We need all the time to heal we can get. Almost everyone else does it, so refusing to play at all Thanksgiving weekend was a pretty big competitive disadvantage.

I can live with playing 1 more game after Big Game, even though it's not ideal. But this game is going to need to become permanent if it's really in the bylaws or else BG will be moving early again soon. That I have a much harder time living with.

The problem I have if this really is in the bylaws is that it means Sandy flat out lied, and knew she was doing it, when she said every rivalry group would take their turn moving their game. I was always extremely suspicious of that statement, but for there to be documented contradiction that she lobbied FOR that predates it says she just doesn't care at all and will say and do whatever she wants, truth be damned. That's not good.

The wording for the moved rivalry games and bye weeks:
The following facets of the schedule shall affect all members over time: (6/12)
•
Schedule changes that move games between traditional rivals from the last week of the regular season;
and (6/12)
•
Playing a full season of 12 games without a bye. An institution whose schedule includes a 13th regular-
season game at Hawaii that replaces a bye is not relieved of this requirement. (6/12)

I think the key thing is that there is no 'equally' in front of affect, so there is wiggle room. So Sandy's words on the BG being moved might follow the P12 language in that it will be shared, but not always equally. Due to the extra restrictions on Cal/Stanford scheduling and USC/Stanford scheduling, it might affect the BG more. The other thing is that ESPN/Fox select the Thursday games based on appeal - so that is always the unknown going year to year. That could also skew how easy it is to equally distribute the missed byes and moved rivalry games. Still, I'd say 1 moved every 8 years would be about equal - it's not 1 out of 6 because about 2 of 7 years have 14 game seasons w/ two byes, which reduce/eliminate scheduling issues (2013 and 2014 are 14 week regular seasons) . I think we'll see the BG moved twice under the current TV contract then - who knows what the next TV contract will require, it will be a new cycle. If it's move 3 times, we are getting very unequal treatment.

I'm calling it: rose bowl baby!

Goff throws darts, our wrs hold blocks, the OL stops blocking air, and a sack of potatoes coaches the D to top 25 nationally.
