From football scoop:

"Alabama: Lane Kiffin will "interview" for the Tide's offensive coordinator position, possibly as early as today, according to Jeremy Fowler of CBS. If so, expect Lane to be the Alabama offensive coordinator."

The man is made of rubber and teflon...

Man, he is in the wrong field. He should be on Wall Street with the way he can sell himself.

I think Tony Franklin is a better fit for Bama. Heck, he already has the accent. Quite frankly, if TF could ever land a job at Bama his DVD sales would explode.

Kiffen never had a problem calling plays and being an OC. he just had no idea how to be a HC.

Except the year USC went 10-2 with sanctions and a bowl ban

Yah, you give him a team full of 5 star recruits with a dynamic head coach who sets the tone for greatness and you pair him with a CO-oc both of whom are running an offense built by another guy and he's great.

by your reasoning, nobody should hire the OC/DC of a bigtime winning program because they're all taking advantage of strong head coaches and 5* talent.

Doug Nussmeier went to Michigan. Apparently Saban encouraged Nussmeier to look around so that he could offer this job to Kiffin.

No, by what I've seen of Kiffen nobody should hire him for anything.

Man, Tedford could have been on easy street taking the Bama OC job. I wonder what the timing was between this and the Tampa Bay hire? I'd bet dollars to donuts Saban would jump at the chance to hire Tedford.

yup.....I'm probably the #1 Kiffin hater here after studying him since before he left USC the first time. He is a low ethics, low morals, immature guy but he is pretty good at X's and O's, so if he doesn't have to worry about leading men, talking to the media or being a decent human being, he can be effective.

I would think the Bama job would be more stressful. There are more than 100,000 people who know your name, who will be scrutinizing everything you do. I doubt most Bucs fans care about the offensive coordinator. Plus, I doubt Tedford would be recognized in Tampa. He could live anonymously, which wouldn't happen in Tuscaloosa.

I don't know. Our opinion of Kiffen > Pat Haden's, Tenn AD's, and Al Davis'.

We'll see.

Even Kiffins most foaming at the mouth detractors will concede the man can flat out recruit. Pair him with Darth Saban on the recruiting trail...

Kiffen is born to be the guy in the booth calling plays, and never talking to the media.

Tedford has more of a HC personality than Kiffen, and did a really good job for about 6-7 years. However, I don't think Tedford enjoys the stress of being the HC - on the other hand, I don't think that sort of pressure bothers Kiffen the same way.

wow. Kiffin could very well be a great OC and a turrible HC.

Noticed this great game on the bama schedule this year:
Alabama @ Tennessee, Oct 25. who's up for a road trip?

If this does go through, I think we will have to have the national guard escort the Crimson Tide into Neyland Stadium on October 25.

He's been at Tenn and USC. Not exactly tough places to recruit to. Bama won't tax his recruiting muscle either. Let's see him recruit to Weber St.

Seriously, though, I don't understand how this man keeps getting work. Yes, he's a good offensive coordinator and a good recruiter, but he's left a path of PR destruction everywhere he has been. Is it really worth it?

Louisville, with the same AD, re-hired Petrino. That tells you all you need to know about college football.

Just curious as to why you believe he has low ethics and morals? Has he been the target of NCAA sanctions?

Actually yes, he set a record for secondary violations as a 1st year head coach at Tennesee. I've studied this guy for years reading up on him. It would take me volumes but suffice it to say, he skirts the edge of ethics almost every where he goes, gives orders that are questionable, continually lies or bends the truth on a variety of subjects and is just about the most immature guy I've even seen give a presser. Much of what I've written can also be found on USC and Tennessee websites....and that is after you wade through the hate and vitriol. Most of the SEC coaches were pi$$ed off at him after his antics. He and Ed Orgeron orchestrated and effort for early enrollees at Tenn. not go to class the first day after he quit so he could poach them to USC...the list goes on and on and many Trojans will tell you the same.

Speculation, but I believe that Tedford has probably had enough of college ball and this was his opportunity to move to the NFL. OC's make big bucks in the League and he probably sees it as a challenge.

I see. I looked up what the violations were - simulating game conditions during a recruiting visit. He used a fog machine and held a mock press conference. Another was talking about a recruits ability on the radio. I believe the last one was by one of his assistants - again, a minor infraction.

These all seem quite minor given what other coaches are doing and have done. The only difference is that this guy walks and talks like an apparent douchebag. Beyond that, he must either be using his pedigree, be incredibly charming or really have a good football mind - otherwise he wouldn't have landed - arguably - the #1 OC position in college football.

Kiffin confirmed as OC at Bama per the Twitta.

It's an excellent landing spot for Kiffin, which is unfortunate for the rest of us because he'll do fine there, he'll stay out of trouble, and he'll land another plum HC job in 2-3 years.
