Homesick? For Sacramento?
In fact, going to any NFL team would mean being further away from Sacramento than Berkeley.

My questions is, has any school ever had so many players leaving early despite a 1-win season???

plus those that transferred and those that retired
i would like to know

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but I count 14 that have left in some shape or form (transferred, retired, dismissed, declared for draft) since Dykes took over. You can't blame Dykes for all of them but shoot, it's a pretty depressing list:
Allan Bridgford, QB (prior to start of the 2013 season, transferring to Southern Miss)
Khairi Fortt, LB (declared for draft)
Jonah Hodges, RB (transferring, destination TBD)
Kameron Jackson, CB (declared for draft)
Gabe King, DT (Midseason retirement for academic reasons)
Alex Logan, S (Midseason retirement for medical reasons)
Chris McCain, LB/DE (dismissed from the team)
Vili Moala, DT (declaring for draft)
Johnny Ragin, LB (transferring to Oregon)
Richard Rodgers, WR/TE (declared for draft, signed with agent)
Freddie Tagaloa, OL (transferring to Arizona)
Chad Whitener, LB (transferring to Oklahoma State)
Dave Wilkerson, LB (prior to start of the 2013 season, transferring to Arizona)
Zach Kline, QB (transferring to Oregon State)
Not sure if I missed anyone. I didn't include Bigelow since I haven't heard anything definitive on him leaving...

Sure hope all these kids get drafted!
I'm guessing some of these guys just don't like school very much... Hope they don't regret it 10 years from now

I thought it was illegal to smoke crack in the NFL. I've never seen anything like this. We should name the 2013 Cal defense the "Peter Principle Defense" - suck at your job, get promoted. I'm waiting for some NFL team to come after Buh.
SMH...

If you are just going to go by anything then Lucas King also is out.
FYI Florida 7 transfer and so far 4 early entrants.

Pretty much this. With the lack of consistency at the coaching position,* he's unlikely to develop his game significantly more at Cal than he would in the NFL. Why not at least get paid to do so?
*I'm only speculating, but I doubt that the coaches have had him work consistently on the same techniques, drills, etc.

Moala was finally beginning to develop into a run stopper although not much of a pass rusher. Maybe academic struggles in combination with Sacks being fired could have triggered this move...The 2014 four star recruit from Bellevue, WA, Griffith, is a must "get" now. The two youngsters-Griffith & Hunter-in combo with the two jucos would be the Bear's two deep at defensive tackle.
Three defensive starters from the worst defense in Cal history are leaving after their juniors seasons for a higher level of competition [NFL]? I cannot believe what's going on...Why wouldn't he wait to see who the new defensive coordinator is and his new position coach (DTs)?

Now Dykes can go grab some more WSU and Sacramento State rejects to get that top 3 recruiting class and propel Cal to the top of the Pac12...why didn't Tedford think of this?

Well then we might as well join Davis in the Big Sky because all Pac-12 level recruits dream job is the NFL.

It is quite stunning to see how long the list is of player departures, including several who were highly regarded recruits/transfers and who were key players in 2012/13.
Schools facing heavy probation sometimes don't lose so many! The transfers and early NFL attempts are the most telling. To me, they are saying I have no confidence in this coaching leadership and I want to try to continue my football career elsewhere, even if it means sitting out a year or trying the NFL despite a less than stellar college career. Very sad.
