College production is becoming more and more irrelevant to pro teams when the draft rolls around.

no. One of the biggest things teams evaluate is your college tape.

Am I crazy but of all the players declaring for the draft isn't jackson the only one that really is a loss?

yeah I thought removing Coleman after I posted. but I wasn't sure if he was asking about any player we lose for next season, or only those who chose to leave with eligibility left.

I believe we have more underclassmen declaring for the draft than Alabama does. That says something.

Bigelow will be very lucky to be drafted in the late seventh round. He was unable to learn his assignments in a pro style offense. And he was unable to be effective in a drastically simplified system. I would imagine that pro offenses are more complicated than what Tedford was doing here.

Unless Sonny has a few magic tricks that he hasn't revealed yet, I can't imagine any scenario in which he will be our coach for too much longer.

When Sonny signed on, he inherited a ton of talent. But he also had some serious culture issues to address. When his replacement comes on board, he will not be as fortunate to inherit the talent that Sonny did. And with all of our recent blowout losses, the locker room fight, the defections and dismissals, I can't imagine the cultural issues being improved that much.

Here's another team that is losing 4 underclassmen to the draft this year and had a "rash" of transfers last year.

Like ND, maybe Dykes is just clearing away the deadwood for his 3rd ranked recruiting class. With his big paycheck comes the assumption that he knows what he is doing. :p

Yes of course they look carefully at college tape. However, if a players has off the chart measureables at the combine that now is trumping lack of production in a player's college career.

Booth. By at least a month.
Very, very old news.

But... why the odd "breaking news about guys who declared months ago" threads, again and again. Weird threads on this board...

Did he ever officially "declare"? The news a month ago was that he was requesting an evaluation from the NFL but I never heard anything about him officially opting for the draft like the other guys.

A 3 and 9 team which lost a NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR receiver, its only experienced quarterback, its only good offensive lineman, ...

Oh yeah, 72 future NFL All Pro on this squad.

Look at the game tapes and then tell us. Quickness off the ball? Disengaging from blocks? Agility? Aggressiveness? Pursuing to the ball? Physical condition?

As for Bigs, will his knee stand up to physical exam? Spinning the way he does must put tremendous torque on the knees; torque to which the knee is not structured to stand up. His physical condition was not going to get any better.

Which league would that be, the league of unemployed college dropouts? Bigelow was not even one of the top 10 or 15 backs in the conference... Don't mean to be harsh, but he'd be much better off getting his degree while he still has a scholarship.

I agree. I made a similar comment several weeks ago regarding one other player who was going to declare for the pros. But I received a lot of static from posters who thought that the player should "give it a shot" if it was the player's dream to play in the pros.

My feeling (as a parent) is:
(i) if the student has a good chance at making it in the Pros, go for it.
(ii) but if not, then he should stay in school, finish his education then try making the Pros after graduation.

[I have heard the "he can come back to finish his education later" arguments, but that is more "eyewash" than anything else: something someone says to make it appear that he is still concerned about completing his education when he really has no intention of following through. It makes him look like a student.]

This is the time for the student to take a hard look at his realistic chances at making the Pros.
If not, his "shot" is nothing other than a vain pipedream.

The downside of the "dream" is that the student would be losing the scholarship.

How would the posters feel about some college football lineman who can barely run a 7 minute mile and who decides to give up his football scholarship and drop out of college to improve his time so that he can qualify for the Olympics.

Gotten to the point where we're actually giving Maynard credit, and somehow implying that had Maynard not left that Dykes would be better off?

It's the old Clinton strategy: Deny and ridicule allegations until the truth is overwhelming. Then call it "old news". Unfortunately, other than the pathological lying, Dykes is no Clinton.

If there is a possibility of him coming back, that would be really nice. Bigs still has worlds of upside, which always makes him intriguing as a player. If he can get back to his explosive 2012 injury-free form, the sky's the limit. One can hope.

President Clinton was acquitted by the Senate because no one gave a **** about lying about a sexual affair. But I digress.

The main reason he was acquitted was that many of the Repub senators were hitting on their own interns (female and male) and didn't want their own secrets getting out. Plus they didn't want future Monica Lowinsky's to stop offering their services in DC.

Well put. Don't forget due to bad recruiting Dykes got few total offensive linemen and few total defensive backfield players

You'd think we could go a week without some yahoo turning a seemingly innocent thread into some political hate/joke crap. Some folks need to stop generalizing politics to sports, shopping, talking, taking a crap etc....

Yah but I saw him play 2 years ago too. He was a different guy. He could turn it around as 3 years ago, he was more like this past season(timid, worried about his knee, so hesitant, always getting blown up).

Maybe he did, in private? Anymore now, today, one expects everything to appear via twitter. LOL

I noticed that RB's from Auburn and and Arizona declared: lots of competition for draft day.
