Does Barry Sacks being hired just a couple of days after being fired at Cal not say something to you?

Barry Sacks was on a one-year contract and just coached an epically bad defense. Perhaps he was prepared irregardless. Tough to say. Some people plan and prepare better than others.

Clancy was let go before Dykes was hired, wasn't he?

I also would like to know how many DC's have been hired as HC when the HC was fired. Is that even a plausible scenario?

No.

Why not just post the info on the potential victi.... err candidates here? Why the need for all the secret secret stuff when the insider board isn't all that secret given that a few greenback will reveal the info?

I'm not suggesting that people avoid supporting the insider board financially, but all this hush hush over what looks to be a middle of the road hire in a program few outside of Norcal care about seems.... needlessly dramatic. And continues to promote needless drama and hand wringing/"sky is falling" for folks here.

Yeah, I don't understand why movie companies even charge for movies anymore, because eventually the movies will be on network TV and the movies are pretty "middle of the road" :p

That's great that someone is possibly lined up! I hope the recruits know so the team can benefit on LOI day and the current players know something before more flee. Or do they need to subscribe to the insider board?
Four teams are left in the NFL playoffs. If it is a coach from there I understand no announcement. Otherwise the season has been over. Usually when you fire someone, especially two months after the season, I imagine you have someone close to being lined up as a replacement.

That rarely, if ever, happens. If Dykes is fired at the end of this season, I would assume it means Cal wins 3 or fewer games. Any coach would know that Dykes being fired would most likely mean that everybody on the staff is out the door with him.

Most coaches have families, and are looking for a situation where there is stability, not a one season run with a coach on the hot seat. imo anyway.

I would be shocked if Dykes were fired after winning 3 next year. I think that's actually a strong possibility for an outcome, and it'll be perceived as marked improvement, sadly. Is Buh the highest paid LB coach in the NCAA now? Maybe at any level?

Maybe we just need a part-time DC, like our OC.

Just got this email:

Subject = TFS announces Nashville speaker line-up [later this week]

The 2014 seminar will be life changing and career changing.

The most impactful person I've met in my 34 years of coaching has agreed to fly to Nashville and deliver his WIN FOREVER presentation. Yogi Roth is making a dynamic difference in the lives of coaches and players everyday.

The 2013 season was very trying as all of you can imagine, however, each step of the way I had this new friend calling me, whispering to me, and pointing me in a direction of positive outcome. As you see when you read his profile, Yogi has accomplished more in his youthful 32 years than most of us will if we live to be 100.

Yogi was the executive producer of a documentary mini-series for the Pac 12 network called The Drive and we (Cal Football) were his subjects. Each week of losing in our 1-11 season provided another series of obstacles, many that I'd never faced before. The constant advising force of positive energy was Yogi. Yogi's attitude and life philosophy of Life Without Limits has energized me to do more than I ever dreamed possible.

Nick Coleman
The proudest part of being a football coach for 34 seasons is following your former students and players and watching them out produce you. I have contracted my third team quarterback, Nick Coleman, from my 2009 season at MTSU.

Nick knew he wanted to be a college coach when he was playing and he spent the 09 season asking questions and soaking in every bit of knowledge he could. After spending two seasons as a Graduate Assistant at MTSU following graduation. Nick took his first full time coaching position at Faulkner University, a NAIA college in Alabama. Nick was promoted to Offensive Coordinator after one season and in his first season as coordinator he took Faulkner to their first ever playoffs while building the nations best offense led by his two-time All American quarterback who threw for with 4367 yards 42 touchdowns in their 9-3 season. Nick's offense was in the top two nationally in total yardage at 570 yards per game, scoring, and also led the nation in pass efficiency.

I've hired Nick to present his offensive philosophy and concepts that have made him one of the nations fastest rising stars in the coaching profession.

Jason Mohns
This 2013 season saw a new all-time leader produced in career completion percentage with a lifetime rate of 72%. The Saguaro Arizona Sabercats have become a powerhouse in Arizona and their young coach Jason Mohns has produced the best offense in Arizona, as well as one of the best in the nation for four straight seasons. Jason's quarterback was also one of the best running quarterbacks in high school football history. I've contracted Jason to present his program building strategies as well as his secrets to making a great athlete a winning quarterback.

Brian Hamilton
Moving to Cal gave me an opportunity to spend more time with one of our best long time clients: Concord High HFC Brian Hamilton. Brian has done something few coaches in the history of football have ever done: in consecutive seasons his team led the state of California in passing with over 5,000 yards and the very next season led the state in rushing with more than 4000 yards.

Brian is in the top five Offensive Line coaches in the country. We had Brian come to all of our spring practices and analyze each player as well as critique our plan, techniques, and schemes. We have extended our offensive line segments to it's longest ever as we believe Brian's value will exceed any of our previous presentations.

Bob Schoop
The best Defensive Coordinator in college football has agreed to present in Nashville: We are fortunate that after over 90% of our clients requested Bob Shoop of Vanderbilt to return as a presenter, he has agreed to! Bob will present numerous topics but he will directly address some secrets on defending high tempo spread offenses!

Finally, very simply put, if the 2014 TFS seminar isn't the best football learning experience of your life let us know and, if requested, we will refund your fee.

You can find the Nashville seminar itinerary here.

Be sure to register for your nearest seminar as seats are going fast.

Safe travels!

I will take the MWC defensive coordinator of the year. I would like a guy who has the chops, and has been successful at being an actual DC. Buh is a nice guy but he is still OJT as a DC, which Sonny cannot afford (not sure why he thought it would be OK on initial hire). Sonny needs a turnkey guy for DC so he can focus on what he knows. Things like being coordinator of the year, and being ranked nationally in defense, and he was the guy actually directing it -- that's what's relevant for our hire. Some key games:

They held $C to 17 points and lost 17-14. Of course this was when Kiffen was coach but still. They held Boise State to 31, BYU to 34 and Utah to 30. Not exemplary but not bad (again you are talking about USU talent here - and had we done this last year, we would be doing cartwheels). They shut out Colorado State. That's a team that Wazzu lost to.

It would be funny if two 1 win teams (Hawaii and Cal) raided Utah State's defensive coaching staff. Hawaii hired their LB coach to be their new DC. Logan, Utah, where defensive dreams come true.

Chatter about potential candidates doesn't mean much. As for the "chicken littles" comment, um, not sure if you paid any attention to the 2013 season, but the sky did fall. It feel pretty hard. With all the player defections, seems like it's still got further to fall.

How can it get worse than 1-11 with the 1 being an FCS school? Losing every game including Sac State? Wow. I guess we have that marginally farther fall left yet as a possibility. Hooray. tTFS for life.

So the CGB article paints a pic that shows that Orlando had good results when he had talent. Is there any read on how he might respond with less that good talent? Is there a point in his DC career where he had to build from the ashes?

So how would it read if he actually named this QB? Because it's Rubenzer. Yep, TF is having Rubenzer's HS coach present at his seminar. Does that mean he is compensated? And getting a free trip to Nash-Vegas? Would that have happened if Rubenzer wasn't steered to Cal? Has Mohns presented at these seminars before?

FWIW, I started this thread not to pump sunshine or say the sky was falling, just to point out the facts: we fired some very relevant position coaches and demoted another, just weeks before signing day and no announcements have the been made. I'm not sure on such short notice whoever gets hired will have enough time to recruit effectively. Just a reality. But I did want to see if I was the only one who noticed and from the reaction I guess I'm not, but I'm also not the biggest worrywart of the bunch.

You would think that with the long delay since the end of the season before he made this announcement, that he would have had his guy lined up. This is starting to feel a little like the OL coaching search. Hopefully we don't end up with analogous results.
