Didn't see it mentioned elsewhere. A few of my FB friends have been complaining about it. Anybody here going to the game? Should be epic.

Denver is doing the same ... I see nothing wrong with it. Lots of Niners fans are whining about it. Surprise, Surprise

doubt it mattered much. it was almost impossible to pull tickets anyway.

I'd call the Feds and complain about interstate commerce, trade restrictions and all that. Yeah, get a congressional hearing, that's the ticket.

To quote Hallmark Cards, it's the thought that counts. It's a message to niner fans.

Yes, this is outrageous!

yeah that's pretty much standard practice for all sports teams with half a brain. It's more for show as most tickets are held by season ticket holders anyway, and everyone in the world looking to make a quick buck is probably logging on to ticketmaster to try to pull a lottery score, and on top of that there are probably bots or some other kind of more manual cheap labor trying to grab some for scalpers.

End result is the same - visiting team fans will have to pay a bunch of $$$ to secure tickets, but the restrictions somewhat wash the hand of the home team of responsibility when a ton of visiting fans show up. (Not entirely because the NFL uses ticketmaster as the official reseller, and takes a big cut of the resell profits, so a team really makes more money when their season ticket holders and others resell via the ticketmaster MFL ticketexchange).

Anyone who is outraged by this is completely off the mark. If Bay Area news stations are running stories about this, they are clueless.

i know the press is playing up that angle, but it's really more to thwart scalpers. otherwise, they'd restrict CA addresses only.

Coach Pete will deny this. So block all WA sales.

The Hawks gotta maintain their 12th Man dominance. We should do the same toward $C fans in football and Arizona fans in basketball to keep them from polluting the game environments.

Disagree. We need to sell tickets and make money. That should be our first priority. Worrying about the quality of the crowd comes a distant second.

Only Drew Brees gets rattled on the road. There's almost no advantage to playing at home based on the last few years of visiting team playoff dominance. I wouldn't worry too much about this.

I don't know - Kaep can barely get the plays called on time at home, it's only going to be more difficult on the road. How many time outs have the niners burned in the last 2 road playoff games? And that's in stadiums that don't pipe in crowd noise. Seahawks are far more formidable at home than on the road. This will be a tough test and no outcome would surprise me - blowout by either team or close win by either team - could see any of those scenarios occurring.

Hard to get too excited about seahawks trying to prevent CA fans from buying tickets - probably negatively impacts local hawks fans as much if not more than local niners fans.

They burned at least 2 against Carolina in the second half. I think one early in 3rd Q and one late 3rd or early 4th.

Good one.

Only 35-40,000 Cal fans for a home game against Ohio State?!? Indeed, it MUST HAVE been Buckeye dirty tricks. Heck, at that point in the season, we didn't even know how much we sucked yet.

BTW, there was a moment in around the second quarter (perhaps when we scored our second TD?)... We weren't AHEAD or anything, but the 30,000 Ohio State fans kind of shut up for a while, as it appeared WITHIN THE REALM OF POSSIBILITY that we might win the game. One of their LBs faked an injury, too, a la Northwestern and Furd (and Cal, in the Tosh era). And those 10-15 minutes there were my LAST happy Cal Football moments of 2013 (or since).

Cal Football fans: Living for the smaller pleasures...

This is already the most over-hyped story of the week. There's only a few thousand tix available, Niner fans would have a tough time buying them anyway. There's probably a ton of Seahawk fans who won't get to buy these either due to the demand. Local ticket brokers will probably snatch most of them up.

StubHub for everyone.

Dont think Drew Brees was rattled on Saturday, rather it was the weather. Not even RW could throw the ball. It was way too windy and rainy.

After all, we saw what happened in the fourth when the wind calmed down. Saints had a fighting chance of coming back and winning it.

Interesting stat: Kaep has more road playoff wins than all other 49er QB's combined. Of course previous teams were so dominant they didn't really play many road games

The latter has been true for the most part. When it comes to Sports the Bay Area media coverage is mediocre compared to other major markets.

The Niners also usually didn't have other great teams in their division, so got the home game for the Divisional round almost by default.

Seattle is still the biggest home field advantage in the league, and their home playoff record (not to mention their recent regular season home record) more than bears that out. It's a pussy move by them, but what do you expect from a team who's biggest positive asset isn't the team itself, but the crowd. I seriously doubt they win this game on the road or at a nuetral site, thus trying to make the home field advantage even bigger a must. Now let's see if the secondary is allowed to get away with the usual holding and muggings of the WR's on most every play.

They probably would have gotten it anyway since the old NFC West is a weak division argument was debunked many years ago. During their 80's heyday, the 9ers had a better winning percentage against the rest of the league than they did in their own division. I'm for a system that would allow division winners into the playoffs, but the seeding would be determined by record after that.

Much ado about nothing. I got through at 10. Nothing but standing room only and random singles. The Seahawks sellout anyway. There weren't that many available. Not enough to make ANY difference. If blocks of Niners fans want to go there are plenty of seats on Stubhub.
