And how long does Cal get branded as "the TFS school?" Maybe one more year with Sonny & Co? Then how "cool" do these camps look? I agree, run the camps for free..bring in all the coaches..but make it "Cal" first, just like coaches and players bought into the Delaware Wing T..This smells like moonlighting and a big conflict of interest.

Well, considering Cal is not and likely will be branded the Tfs school, your delusional commentary is just that, delusional.

"Many of you might think this was a horrible year for me as we went 1-11. It was just the opposite. I learned more than ever before and grew as a coach...Most important is the knowledge I obtained this year to help you!"---tTFS email marketing piece. It goes on to say:
"Although going 1-11 and getting creamed by our rival was a bummer for the team and fans, it was great for me and tTFS! I learned so much and you will benefit!!
"Perhaps the most important thing I learned is that football in the PAC 12 is quite a bit better than in high school or even the mid majors! Man, those defenses just ate tTFS alive. Did you see some of those guys?? Wow, how can you compete with that?
I also learned that some other offensive systems may possibly work as well as tTFS. Oregon had something resembling tTFS but it seemed to work even better. Anyway, they sure scored a lot of points with it. Some school named Stanfurd had this offense that used a position called "running back". Not very flashy or exciting, certainly not nearly as exciting as tTFS, but they gave us the worst beatdown in history. Sixty points or something. Of course that's more on Buh and tABS. We scored 14 points with tTFS and would have scored more but this Stanfurd school had the ball all the time. Something called "ball control" which I'm researching as I don't think it's really legal but a real concept if it is. Again, their defense was loaded!! Not sure what you do about that. Fortunately you won't have to play against competition like that. Thank your lucky stars you don't and we'll see you at Cal for tTFS seminars!"

Right. How can anyone defend hiring Mike Montgomery, Lindsey Gottleib, Tara McKeever, and other world class coaches, standing up to the most hostile faculty of any major athletic program in the country, getting Memorial Stadium done despite costs zooming from groundless lawsuits and tree sitters, pushing baseball into actually actively raising money to support itself while improving the stadium, and many other such things, all without Phil Knight or some other big checkbook (Stanford) and with actual academic requirements. Is SD the right guy? Doubtful, but still an open question. We needed a house cleaning, we're getting one. May not work out at all. But she's "totally incompetent and is not qualified to be athletic director at a major u"? Come on, get a grip.

Montgomery, Gottleib, and McKeever were good hires, no question. On the other hand, her most important coaching hire, football, appears to be a total and absolute bust. The stadium construction was substantially over budget and contained major busts like the minitrons above the north and south endzones, no provisions for restrooms for the east side, etc. She was completely asleep as our athletes were performing poorly in the classroom for some 4 years, resulting in significant embarrassment for the university. The brinksmanship concerning the elimination/downgrading of 5 sports a couple of years ago was very amateurish. Frankly, she just doesn't appear to know what she is doing. She just seems to flail aimlessly in the dark. We can certainly do much better, and when she is fired, I expect that we will. If you're pleased with her, you have very low standards.

Why. TFS worked for a lot of high schools out there. Plus people still go

As much as I agree with this thread, none of us would care if we were good and TF did not come off as a hubris OC who is out of his league.

I've watched quite a few TF speeches/lectures recently, some dating back to the Kentucky era, and the guy has a lot of conviction in what he does and what he believes, his philosophies and coaching priorities. He's admitted he couldn't use half of what he wanted to because of Cal's personnel/youth. Maybe that justifies some of the inexplicable and vanilla play calling, or what looks to be poor blocking technique. In one lecture he kept harping on how blocking assignment is much more important than technique. Both are important -- you can't block well without doing both. Some of the things he says strikes me as odd, but in front of a bunch of HS coaches, what are they going to do, correct him? In that same video TF misspelled "nickel" as "nickle". Strange. Ultimately this is a personnel game, and I"m in the camp of Cal having the least talented roster in the Pac.

Win or lose, I don't like these for-profit seminars while running Cal's offense. It just has a tinge of sleaziness about it.

Sure wasn't allowed at Auburn.

Shouldn't our OC (who is paid handsomely) have a laser-like focus on recruiting the best student athletes to improve our pathetic scoring, red zone and 3rd down conversion offensive system instead of self promoting?

If the tTFS seminar were such a good program for connecti with high schools and picking up recruits, then where are they? Tony has been running his business for some time so he must have many of these relationships already. Did it help our recruiting this year?

These guys are penny wise and pound foolish. They'd make a lot more money if they spent this time winning at college rather than running a business from a Geocities website.
