I am sure this mini series will ultimately be worthy of a discussion here but I am going to have to re-watch Episode # 1 because it was so deliberately paced that it sent me into sleep apnea mode.

This show is dark! It's worth watching twice as the dialogue between the two on the pic gets pretty heavy...

Making this slightly less OT, the director's father is a retired Cal employee and a die-hard Cal athletics fan. BTW, I saw the first episode last night and loved it.

I would probably benefit from a second viewing, too. Some shows seem to need to be subtitled (in English).

Good start to a potentially great series!

Questions: Did anybody else go "Whoa!" when they saw the deer's heads mounted in that office? Or were those ANTLERS just a coincidence?!? Why did Russ decide NOT to leave the family dinner when it was all set up for him to do so?

I've been looking forward to this show since I first heard about it. Pretty incredible to get two actors of their quality on a series. I didn't think much of mr no shirt as an actor, but he was incredible in Dallas Buyers Club.

I really need hbo. I wish they sold just a digital subscription.

I loved the swamp noir but wonder how long they can pull this off

It's not TV. It's HBO....oh, and it's only an 8-episode commitment, so it's easy to get big-name movie stars.

Julia Roberts is doing an HBO movie.

And Matt Damon and Michael Douglas, of course, were in that Liberace movie last year (which actually was in theaters in Britain).

And Al Pacino has done a bunch of HBO stuff, playing Phil Spector, Jack Kevorkian and that guy in Angels in America.

(Yes, but the casting is still impressive.)

Sometines hard to tell until after 3-4 episodes, but definitely thumbs up, so far. The "deliberate pace" sure wasn't bothering me.

Trying so hard to get into it but I'm having a hard time.

I was going to watch it on-demand. This thread gives me pause to do so...

Just one season. Every season is like a new issue of a detective magazine, with a new story and new characters (and I assume new cast members).

Yes, this is my understanding as well. And all 8 episodes were written by the same guy, which is very unique to television programs which usually have a plethora of writers due to the time constraints. This was written much more like an 8 hour movie supposedly.

I was able to watch the first episode, and I came away very impressed. Had a great ending to the episode also to pique your interest even more (if it wasn't already).
