This article says that Manning yelled "Omaha" 44 times before the ball was put into play. I noticed that he yelled a bunch of signals before ending with "Omaha" after which the ball has hiked. I don't get the logic since it let the SD D line also know when the play was to start. Anyway PM has to have the loudest voice of all the QBs in the NFL. In contrast, Rivers could hardly be heard. I was amazed that old man PM could keep yelling so loud on every offensive play through the 4 quarters. I wonder if Goff can be heard clearly over the crowd noise especially on the road.

The crazy high number of neutral zone infractions tells me that he was not tipping his hand as to when the play would start to the SD defense.

On ESPN, Trent Dilfer explained it pretty well...in the old days it got you ready for a snap, but now it can just be a decoy, or you can use it initially as a decoy and then a trigger....he called it snow coning or something like that....so in effect, "Omaha" really doesn't mean anything except to the offense cause it is used differently in different situations....Manning sure was loud. Never heard a QB that clearly that wasn't miked up...

Let's not forget that SD's head coach was Peyton's OC last year, so he probably prepared the defense for "Omaha."

And Peyton was just making a counter/preventative move.

I have no idea how it works in FB but in baseball there's the "key" when giving signs, nothing before the key is given matters, only what comes right after the key. My guess is Omaha works in a similar way, only makes sense in combo with something else. Could also use it/mean something differently given the situation, down, etc.

What does this mean? The QB points at a defensive player and yells "(the player's number) is the Mike". Anybody know what this means?

It was incredibly annoying. Hopefully he picks another city for next game.

The city of Omaha likes it

"But it provided some unexpected publicity for the city of 427,000, perhaps best known as the home of both billionaire Warren Buffett and the Fortune 500 insurance company Mutual of Omaha (sponsor of the old TV show ‘‘Wild Kingdom").

‘‘I think it shows Peyton Manning really loves Omaha,’’ Mayor Jean Stothert said Monday. ‘‘I'll personally take him on a tour. He has an official invitation now.’’

Omaha was a trending topic on Twitter during the game, and the Greater Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau jumped aboard, tweeting: ‘‘We certainly appreciate all the love from Peyton Manning ’’

Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce President and CEO David Brown said he was watching the game, and he wondered how his agency could capitalize.

Brown said he wants to explore the possibility of hiring Manning, one of the sporting world’s top pitchmen, to shoot a promotional ad for Omaha.

‘‘We'd be foolish not to,’’ Brown said, adding that he realizes Manning’s fee probably would be prohibitive. "

"Omaha" not as amusing as "hurry, hurry" from Manning earlier this year

Yep. Let's the oline identify how to protect with the protection numbers or assignments coming off that player.

Good analysis. CF2. It means different things at different times with different situations so you don't have to worry about it being said 44 times and tipping the defense.

Also, Manning is loud, but he was also playing at home. Denver fans are very knowledgeable and know to zip it when they've got the ball . . . They don't have to send out reminders to their fans to be quiet when they have the ball like the 49ers do. Ha! You shouldn't be able to hear the opposing qb - ever.

According to John Madden on the radio this morning, early in the game, it meant for the center to snap the ball on the next "Hut!" Then, later in the game, after the defense was on to it, or so they thought, it was used to draw them offsides.

Its all code that changes over the game. Mind Games ;-) I heard from someone talking about it and they mentioned Manning uses it for many things, there's usually a call in the huddle that determines what happens after Omaha is called, could be ball is snapped on the next sound, could be O in Omaha means open so no audible run the play, could be that after Omaha he will say "SET" at the first sound to get the defense to jump, and could be nothing. He also mentioned the centers now have microphones so to Manning and the center Omaha could mean something else through the microphone(in no huddle), which would mean Manning yelling Omaha at the center (only manning and the center know what Omaha means because they heard it through the mic) the center confirms or changes the line play based on the call and manning hand signals the change if any to the receivers and the back.

Peter Peter, Buck You Buck You were used back when I played Peter Peter is common and is still used its called by the punt returner, if your blocking and the ball is coming down it means look up I'm not catching it get away from it. Buck you I still hear it once in a while? your gonna have to guess that one;-)

Thats a great video, so in essence it looks like the QB is telling the RB/Line who the unblocked man is based on the protection called? Or maybe the line adjusts based on the protection package called to pick up the unblocked man?
