Is there a thread for Robinson as one of the DC candidates? Current Texas DC? Guess Dykes interviewed him...Strong candidate?

I don't know if they are interviewing for Cal DC or possibly DB coach. KoreAmBear;842263608 said:
If another school is thanking you or kind of mocking your hire, watch out for the red flags. Remember the OC from Oregon via Utah we hired? Oregon fans were laughing at us when we picked him up. It turned out to be an uninspiring (so uninspiring I even forgot his name) tenure.

One website is reporting that Dykes is interested in Robinson, former Univ Cincinnati DC Art Kaufman and former USC DB coach Marvin Sanders. I guess we are only getting rejects.I don't know if they are interviewing for Cal DC or possibly DB coach.

I believe that thread is not a "Thank you Cal for hiring Greg Robinson" but a "Thank you Greg Robinson for what you did in your time" thread which has drastically different connotations.

Some quotes from that thread:
"I was really down on the Greg re-hire after Mack dumped Manny, but Coach Robinson produced impressive results with the components he was given. I applaud his duct-tape-and-baling-wire fix of this defense, particularly his efforts in the losses against Baylor and Oregon."
"He saved us from disaster and how quick he was able to fix things with what he was given was incredible. But at the same time our D changed like night to day in less than two weeks, which supports what everyone else kind of knew already, that Mack had no idea what the $#@! was going on."
"He did a great job this season. Amazing turnaround."
"He was the antidote to the outbreak of poor tackling in America that had spread to Austin."
"You know Greg is the man when this board full of $#@!s and retards has nothing but uniform praise for his work this year."
"The dude came in and turned around a defense in record time."
"GR's defense was better than "servicable", I'd say 'good' - best in-season turnaround I've seen for a UT team and one of the best overall."
"Greg did a great job in a crappy situation. Most coaches could not have walked into that set of circumstances and done a serviceable job. He did an outstanding one."

The experience and adaptability of Greg Robinson is what our D needs. He is old... 62..., but that helps us to develop our D players even if Greg is only here at Cal for 2 years or so...but who knows maybe he will want to work here as DC for 5 years or more...

Looks like Kaufman was not retained because of recruiting. Sonny is good at PR and is smooth, so he has that covered. What we need is a good football man on defense that knows it all.
Cincy was No. 9 in total defense in the FBS - that is darn good! Kaufman was also good at TT. He has a track record of success, and has had to maintain a great defense when the offense was an air raid. I like him. They did allow 45 to Illinois and 39 to North Carolina. But they held Teddy Bridgewater and Louisville to 24 in regulation (lost on a TD in OT).

Has Sanders been a DC?? Seems like Sonny has said DC experience is a requirement this time around.

Just read the profiles of most the folks being named here and Art Kaufman stands out miles ahead from the bunch IMO. One doesn't have much DC experience at a big school (Sanders), and Robinson had some bad defenses at Michigan, his last real gig of being a DC for whole seasons.
Quote:
On January 10, 2012, Kaufman was announced as the new defensive coordinator for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and former employer Tommy Tuberville, replacing Chad Glasgow.[2] He is the fourth defensive coordinator in four years for Texas Tech, and the first with three years or more of experience at the position since Greg McMackin in 2000.[7]
Kaufman inherited a Red Raider defense ranked 114 out of 120 in total defense, and last in the country in rushing defense.[8] In the opening game of the 2012 season against the Northwestern State Demons, Kaufman's defense set a school record of only 84 yards allowed.[9] After the third game versus the New Mexico Lobos, the Red Raiders were 2nd in total defense in the country.[10] Following a bye the week of September 22, the Red Raiders rose to number 1 in total defense.[11] The Red Raiders maintained their number 1 ranking after a Week 5 defeat of their first Big 12 conference opponent, the Iowa State Cyclones. Kaufman's defense held the Cyclones to 189 yards of total offense.[12] Following this performance, Kaufman was named by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram as the frontrunner for the Broyles Award.[13]
After a loss at home to the 14th ranked Oklahoma Sooners and an upset victory over 5th ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, Kaufman's defense ranked 4th in total yards allowed.[14] In the upset victory over West Virginia, the Red Raiders held Heisman Trophy-frontrunner Geno Smith to 275 yards, a passing efficiency rating of 100.71, and one touchdown pass.[15] The win marked the most lopsided victory over a top-5 opponent in school history, and marked the debut of the Red Raiders in the BCS rankings at number 17. Kaufman was again praised for the performance of the defense, with Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports also naming him as the frontrunner for the Broyles Award.[16]
