Welcome back Jahvid! It is also being reported that he is coming back to finish his degree, so more good news.

Can GA's actively recruit? But what a great mentor he'll be!

Amazing news! Although he won't be able to recruit as a GA, it would be great having such an true Bear back in our camp! First replacing our unqualified DC and now bringing Best. I'm slowly moving over to the side of hopeful again.

Under NCAA rules, graduate assistants are paid an amount equal to a school's full grant-in-aid. G.A.s must be full-time students in grad school.
As for coaching duties, grad assistants can be like full-time coaches, but they aren't permitted to contact or evaluate recruits off campus. G.A.s can phone prospects, though.

How about GA tony Gonzalez and Nmadi?

A lot of football is just mental toughness... Even if he doesn't have the coaching ability his work ethic and NFL experience alone will be a huge help

In addition to being full-time students, GAs are essentially like slaves, who work looong hours.
Here's an article on GA Kevin Daft, and his 7 am to 1 am daily schedule. It's a grind.

So, no way are Tony Gonzalez and Nnamdi going to work that hard as gophers.
Nnamdi -- let's repeat this again! -- has a baby coming and his wife works insane hours already in Los Angeles. So, no, he's not going to neglect his new child and wife.
Tony is retiring from the daily grind. Being a GA would be another daily grind.
Tony is currently deciding which NFL pregame show he should join -- if he joins one at all. (Either CBS or Fox Sports1, but he doesn't want to bump his friend Shannon Sharpe, or so I've read....Fox NFL Sunday would be perfect for him, but that show is kicking CBS' butt, and Fox doesn't want to mess with the chemistry, or so I've read.)

Jahvid left after his junior year. If he is a GA, that means he must have finished his BA at some point after retiring from the NFL. If so, that is awesome!

I think it is more likely Jahvid will be an "Undergraduate Assistant Coach" which is much the same, except he will receive a scholarship to finish his Cal degree. He can coach on the field, but cannot recruit off campus (or make phone calls to recruits).
