This is just a terribly officiated game. Just flat ridiculous. The NFL should be ashamed to have a championship game officiated like this.

IMO, there are no really "great" teams left in the way we used to see them, back in the 80s and 90s. The salary cap and other measures have basically guaranteed greater parity. So the current incarnations of the Seahawks and 49ers are about as close to "great" as we're going to get in the current NFL, but they are not juggernauts like champions of years past.

And yeah, the refs absolutely stunk it up in this game. Still not sure how you don't see Bowman lying on the ground with the ball in his hand before the 'Hawks descended upon him.

I should say that I am not claiming the officiating decided the game, but it was pretty bad.

We had a chance to win it and we didn't. Officiating was horrible but it was still there for the taking. He was told to take a shot if it was there or throw it away. 2 timeouts, no reason to force it.

We had two teams with really good defenses and mediocre, one-dimensional offenses. There's nothing great or elite about that.

This is simply the modern salary-cap NFL. The AFC Champion has a great offense and mediocre defense. You have to sacrifice somewhere, because you can't afford greatness up and down the roster.

I'm not disputing that. Elite is no longer applicable in the modern era.

If it weren't for the refs, Kaep would've never thrown those two picks. The NFL is rigged!

Terrible. Sure hope any of those Bozos are not doing the SBowl. Missed the Bowman strip; dude only let go of the ball after he was already on his back, in plain view, for plenty of time..

The teams of the 80's and 90's would have problems today because of the speed and size of these teams.

Bad call, and I don't understand why you can't challenge a possession question. However, as Harbaugh said, it worked out better for them with the ball at the 11 after the next play.

The refs also missed a roughing the kicker penalty against the Seahawks. The defender ran into Lee's plant leg (you could see his ankle turn) which is supposed to be an roughing the kicker penalty which would have given the 49ers a first down. Instead, the refs called it running into the kicker for a 5 yard penalty which wasn't enough for a first down so the 49ers refused the penalty and the Seahawks got the ball in great field position.

The niners did a pretty good job dealing with the 12th man (crowd) but they couldn't overcome the 13th man (officiating)

And a couple of personal foul calls on (1) Whitner hitting a guy with his shoulder while the ball was still live and (2) Carlos Rogers shoving a receiver out of bounds when the ball was still in the air after being tipped.

Again, not saying that these calls decided the game (I believe the Seahawks drive ultimately stalled in both cases), but they were pretty bad.

The failure on the roughing the kicker call changed the game. Atrocious.

Why would you call out a "bad call" during a game when those calls had no bearing on the outcome of the game? The push out of bounds had zero bearing on the game and since it was a spot foul, the 49ers still got the ball.

The fumble recovery on the goal line by SF was a missed call - but the 49ers got the ball back on the next play! The so called shoulder to the head penalty was 50-50. He was aiming for the head. The receiver was in a defenseless position. I've seen calls like that throughout the season.

Everything evens out. You guys had a great season.

I maintain what lost SF the game was not calling timeout before the last Kaep throw. Bad coaching decision.

He not only misses the OBVIOUS (that it is either not a fumble -if he didnt see when the takeaway happened, or that SF recovered it-when it was clearly in his possession out in the open for everyone to see, real time), but he lets a scrum develop after the play ... on an injured player ... in a game they are trying to "control."

9ers refused the penalty because the kickers leg was injured...


That was a garbage call that lead to the go-ahead score, IIRC.

The roughing the kicker led to a TD...

Especially bad because the roughing injured the kicker, or the 49ers likely would have kicked again.

I think the missed call on the "roughing the punter" was even worse when the Seahawk player rolled over his plant leg. They called "running into the kicker" which Mike Pereira clearly said was the wrong call...that forced the Niners to punt instead of getting a 1st down....and I have already written that the game was lost by Kaps 3 turnovers and maybe partly the refs so I'm not blaming the loss entirely on the refs...Kap blew it in the 4th quarter and the coaches blew it at the end of the game.

The only disputes that hold water (so far) is that it is OK, because the 49ers would have lost anyway...

Bad calls are still bad calls even if they didn't affect the outcome this time. They could have affected things.

I would say that the 49ers lost because of a lot of things... Kap not throwing well, recievers not catching well, etc.

BUT, I tune in to watch that. THAT is why I watch the game...win or lose, we watch to see how teams do.


I DONT watch to see refs make replacement-ref-blatant bad calls. No one watches to see that. The outcome of the game, and the horrendous officiating are separate topics IMO.

The fumble was a TERRIBLE call despite SF getting the ball back the very next play.

Consecutive fumbles does not excuse poor officiating.
