Recruiting will follow results. The coaches were in big part responsible for the results that hurt our the recruiting. However, the coaches are playing the cards they are currently holding, and they seem to be doing as well as we can expect after the disaster of a season.

True for the most part. But yet, look at Ingram: Watson, Enwere, and Mixon even giving us the time of the day is all Pierre's doing.

The main problem with getting an upgrade at the OL coaching spot is that the upgrade has to be compatible with Tony Franklin's system. We may need to eventually replace the OC as well but it was not going to happen during the same year that we replace the DC. In fact, if we have to replace the OC, I suspect we have to replace the head coach as well. That would only happen if 2014 is also a disaster, which also means that Cal fans would have suffered another year of **** poor football.

I don't know why you're talking about replacing Yenser. I never said Yenser should be fired.

calbear93;842267386 said:

As such, I am going to hope for Yenser to do well instead of bitching more than I already do about what is not going to change in the near future. Just negative and pointless energy to complain about something that is not going to change. Your character and personality take the shape of your thoughts and words.

Did you just jump into this thread or something? bobo started off saying Yenser was one of our best recruiters. that isn't true by any measure, and I addressed it. so pointing out an incorrect assertion is now considered bitching? by all means, go bury your head in the sand.

1. Despite last year, I would suspect that it is easier to recruit for receiver, QB, and RB positions than it is for OL position in Franklin's system.

2. Since we can't replace Yenser and he is not going anywhere, what is the point of keep harping about him? Heaven knows I did as well when I thought there might be some hope of changing this position. Now that Buh has been demoted, the offensive coaches are staying put. As such, I stated that I am not going to complain about Yenser and I will hope the best for him.

3. Why are you getting defensive? I was responding to how I am going to feel about Yenser and that I am not going to bitch. Where did I write about you complaining? I was just explaining why Yenser may have a hard time recruiting and that, despite my wish that we could have someone better, I am going to root for him and not complain too much about him because doing so will make me feel negative about Cal football and my mood. Complaining about Yenser for me would be like waiving my fist at the sky that it is raining. I will just accept the weather and make the best of it.

Great analogy for most things we do on BI.

if you just wanted to let everyone know that you're going to try to be zen about the state of Cal football, then there's no need to quote my post.

is it only harping if I respond to others, and say he's not a good recruiter? and is it also "waving your fist at the sky hoping for rain" when people continue to insist he actually IS a great recruiter?

You are obviously in a foul mood. I was responding to your post about why Yenser may have a hard time recruiting linemen and was explaining as a side point that I am not going to complain about him. Geez, fine. I will leave you alone to be grumpy.

i'm so mad bro i couldn't tell where you stopped explaining why Yenser's having a hard time recruiting to me, and when you started being zen to the rest of the board.

so essentially you're telling the majority of this board b/c they're not the Haas family. pray tell how much you've given to our program to have an opinion on here so I know how much $'s I'm short of having my own.

yup, you said it. what a joke of a post.

Since you asked, I give nothing to the athletic department anymore. As a result I know my opinion holds no weight with those in the Athletic department who determine whether the coaches are doing their job. So to better phrase what I said, if you don't give tons of money to pay the coaches salaries, or better yet pay a contract buyouts, your opinion means nothing to the people who actually make these decisions. I will gladly eat crow on this point as soon as Sandy B calls me and asks what I think.

Don't be mad bro. If people start thinking that not being a pointless whiner is being zen, I guess Cal football really is toxic for the spirit.

You can dislike the performance on the field, but that opinion has little impact on changing the state of the team's situation.

That makes zero sense.

SOOOO . . . Accept the product regardless of its quality. Don't talk critically of it since that makes it look bad. We are all Bears, but donate millions and then you can be vocal.

Ridiculous.

I don't get posts like this at all. For starters you acknowledge that you don't know whether he was out in Nashville, or not. . Second, who cares if he says that his system doubled the win totals of three Div I in the last six years, if those are facts. It is pretty lame to come off so bitter when 1) this is presumably your team and 2) you probably don't donate enough to CAL sports to really have an opinion. You don't have to like the results of last year, but constantly railing on the staff using weak arguments says more about you than it does the staff.

sixtiesbear1 is a great example of a non-Cal mentality.
Critical thinking and communication skills aren't his "thing".
sixtiesbear1 is just a troll.
Life must be very  for sixtiesbear1.

despite it's non-Cal mentality and lack of critical thinking. I will admit it's more of an emotional response when I read the following promo from tTF:

"Many of you might think this was a horrible year for me as we went 1-11. It was just the opposite...Most important is the knowledge I obtained this year to help you! I believe the 2014 seminar season will reveal more dramatic results for you and your staff than previous years seminars."

As a Cal Football fan I had a horrible year. I kind of hate that Tony didn't. I think he should have.

Dude, he had a bad year too. He's just not going to tell that to current and prospective clients.

For starters those are your words above, not mine.

The problem lately is that many posters (OP included) are not criticizing the product (i.e., football team performance), but denigrating the person (i.e., the coaches). If the coach is not doing his job then there are people who are responsible for taking care of that issue. I have to question the motives of posters who cast aspersions about coaches with admittedly zero knowledge of the situation.

In so far as having an opinion, my intent was to say that one can have an opinion, however, the opinion isn't worth much if you don't have the ear of the person who is responsible for the coaches performance. Sorry, but we do live in a world where the Haas family and others can write checks and change the coaching regime on a moments notice. But only a few pay the cost of admission to have their opinion heard. I will eat crow when Sandy B. calls me and asks my opinion and then acts on it. Until then, I still have to question the motive of a poster who finds joy in starting a thread that questions the integrity and motives of a coach who is working to restore CAL football to something we can all agree we want. I don't see how that helps CAL football at all, particularly when we are stuck with that coach until somebody with cash can buy him out.
