Walk the dog often with another dog owner who is big time Auburn fan. Doesn't think much of Tubberville, for whatever that is worth.

They just played for a national championship. I wouldn't think much about any other coach other than Gus either.

I won't say 'awesome', but it seems solid... a legitimate DC with lots of experience and some good results. Definitely not the 'wat?' reaction I had with Buh...

Just renewed season tickets- my prediction- we will win 5 if our defense just improves 30 %- and maybe 6 with a bigger improvement. It all depends on the JUCO reinforcements and the guys coming off surgery and the ability of coaches to "coach them up" I sure want to believe it will happen.

I'm not as worried about our defense given the hire. What an old dog coach like Kauf can do is run a sound defense. Guys will be well prepared. They'll be lined up properly and in a position to make a play which was 80% of the problem with the defense last year.

The sad part is, I still think we could end up winless in the pac12 even with a drastically improved defense. The blowouts will be far and few between though, which is great news.

means nothing..he said the same thing about Buh, etc. 4 teams in 4 seasons for Coach Kaufman? Ok. Keeping an open mind is good, positive thinking also better than predicting __ wins next season. It could have been worse I suppose. As others have pointed out..it's going to be a long climb and let's just get respectable next year.

the recruiting thing is about him not being "mr slick". He's a serious dude not a wily back slapping careerist. See his video it is obvious. As a DC I think he is perfect for us. Down to business, stay at home dude. Not everyone has to look like he projects as an up and coming HC. We need strong experienced role players that know their jobs, this dude does in my opinion.

4 teams in 4 years why? Don't say it like he was jumping from team to team while all the HC stayed the same. Sometimes there are reasons like the fact the HC of North Carolina was let go where he had been for 3 years and the new coach brought in his own guy. Kind of like Clancy was let go when Dykes came in. Then he went to TT and the HC went to Cincy where he hired him for more money to follow. He was let go either because they didn't have very good recruiting in Ohio or he had a falling out with the HC, but then came to Cal. You act like he was at North Carolina and Left for TT with no coaching changes and then left for Cincy with no coaching changes, etc.

He had the 9th best Defense in all of football last year. He gave up over 40 points only once and that was the second game of the season on a new team. We gave up over 40 in 9 games! He gave up over 26 only 4 times and one of the times blocked kick for TD and punt return TD (14 of the 26 given up), another time Kick return TD, Punt return TD, and Safety (15 of the 39 given up). We gave up over 30 every game. He turned around TT the year before from 114th in the nation giving up 485+ yards per game and got them to 38th in one year. His resume is legit and you want to diminish him because of how many jobs he had in 4 years, but not looking at why?

The stuff you bring up about 4 schools in 4 years, definitely true. Most people don't look into it enough. He's no Marshall.

However, Special Teams achievements don't get attributed to the DC, we have a ST coach for that.

I wouldn't blow off Jamonit's comments so easily. He makes some good points. My concern is that Kauf may be coming in 1 year too late. Fans (and donors and ESP seat buyers) may be too turned off by now; and may not tune in again until SD demonstrates the kind of win-loss record he had at other schools. Which may take more than 1 year.
