I was there to see him speak. I don't remember the crowd being so large, but he may have spoken on the Sproul steps more than once.
I was also there in 1968 to see Adam Clayton Powell Jr speak. He was a great entertainer. He was a Congressman at the time and under investigation for some fraud. He was spending time with his mistress in Bimini in the Caribbean. He referred to himself as "The Old Man and the Sea." A real spellbinder, as was MLK Jr - the black preachers of that time had a great way of speaking t crowds.

I, too, was there. Way in the back someplace. I remember how forcefully he spoke out against the Vietnam war, which was the issue most prominently on the minds of many of us at the time.
