I just read on twitter that he was recently offered by Vandy.

He looks pretty good on tape. Good size, quick release, strong arm, and some athleticism. I wonder why we wasn't more successful at MD or more heavily recruited. On tape, he looks as good if not better than some of the consensus 4 stars we've brought in. Allan Bridgford comes to mind.

Well, there's a reason why they call it "highlight tape". Every recruit will look good on tape.

It was such a nice streak.

Not a big fan of the mater dei uni's.

Wait, I don't think Beau Sweeney and Kyle Boehm were Elite 11 QB's.

But 9 out of 12 is not bad: Boller, Longshore, Reed, Riley, Bridgford, Mansion, Hinder, Boehm, Kline, Goff, Rubenzer, and now Forrest.

He has many of the skills that are needed in our offense. He is a very good athlete and a tough competitor. He fits the pattern of our recent recruits (good athlete, good student, high character). I love to see us recruiting the OC. and the Trinity League in particular. Since no one beat SJB, I wouldn't hold that against Chase. He led Mater Dei to some big wins over very tough teams. He will come in ready to compete for playing time in the future. :gobears:

Any worry that RBZ may be put off by this? I wonder if he knew this may happen.

I would assume that Luke would already know. I am sure they were saying you have a chance to compete for the #2 spot and we need someone who can RS to balance the classes out.

Rubenzer shouldn't be threatened by a 2-star QB with an offer from EWU if he's a gamer. He shouldn't feel threatened if Peyton Manning had eligibility and we offered him if he's a gamer.

Except for their respective heights, EVERYTHING else about what they've each done thus far would say that they're imagining LR to eventually be the starter. In fact, from what I saw, Rubenzer was only 2-3 inches away from being a high four-star, maybe even a five-star.

I found it curious that we offered a second QB, though.

Boehm Jr. (moved to fullback?)
Goff Soph.
Rubenzer Fr.

Could see why bringing in another guy could make sense, especially with these guys being running QBs and not huge.

You're assuming that he would choose a preferred walk-on at Cal over a full ride at Vandy? Why? The coaches decided that we needed a second QB in this class, and he looks like a great get for this purpose this late in the game.

It is reported that Vandy offered... doubt we could get him as a walk on.

SoCal here;

Forget the stars, etc and the questioning of his stats, etc
Mater Dei HS is only a Division 5 school(enrollment), but, they are a football factory and year after year play one of the toughest schedules in California. The BI nation is predominately NorCal myopic, with De LaSalle close by; but, any player that makes the Mater Dei team has to be a baller. The player competition, along with the tough schedules has the grads of Mater Dei ready to go.

If Luke and Shane are at Cal, there will be a HUGE QB controversy between these two guys in 2015. Goff will be listed 3rd on the depth.

Getting Shane to Cal, and he plays, perhaps the Bears can make inroads at Mater Dei. Right now, USC is a lead there. RB Watson is from Corona Centennial and the same applies to him and his HS. Getting Watson, Shane and Brown, and playing them, will bring Cal to the attention on the Inland Empire. Now AU, ASU UCLA and$C in this area and they get the ballers. Cal can, also.
