No one who has ever set foot on the Cal campus would recruit Cal students as dancers. The waxing bills alone would eat up any potential profits.

True story: When I joined the Daily Cal as a freshman, the night editor was a stripper at the Lusty Lady.

...would by definition conflict with one another.

Not sure if that's a bigger indictment of the night editing requirements or the stripper talent.

Nah, the night editor worked 3 nights a week (usually Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday) plus a 3-hour editors-only meeting on Sunday mornings, where all the papers were critiqued with red pens. An assistant night editor filled in the other 2 nights.

They'd work from 6 pm to 1 am, or 2 am, or 3 am, or 4 am, or 5 am, depending on how many times the server crashed.

They would supervise the writing of the headlines and the production, signing off on the final product (everything was pasted on bunch of cardboard slabs, which were driven to Union City, where the printing plant is located....toward the end of my work there, we transitioned to doing all the work on a computer and uploading it to Union City).

So she had 4 other nights of the week to strip.

Another true story.

I attended a bachelor party at a famous strip club in west LA. I struck up a conversation w a dancer and when I told her I went to Cal she gets excited and says she went to Cal too. I didn't believe her and started testing her knowledge of Cal. It was true...she really was a Cal alum.

A child of a former Chancellor allegedly dated certain young lady performers from the fine Mitchell Brothers "family" theatre and would bring them to the Chancellor's residence on campus. The theatre's proximity to a certain University of California law school - allegedly - meant that certain law students would earn extra cash at the theatre.

The most beautiful and intelligent Cal gal that I ever went out with was an auburn haired green eyed stunner who was studying for her PhD in English. I had been out of school for at least four years at the time and was living in SF.

She was not only incredibly beautiful, but was sophisticated, witty, charming, warm hearted, funny and very confident. She was the "perfect catch". At that point in my young life, she was way more advanced than any of the other women that I had dated. In fact, I was probably in over my head. Boy, would that end up being true...

We went out twice and had an immediate chemistry. At the conclusion of our second date as things became "intimate" we decided to take things slowly as there was potential for a serious relationship and we didn't want to rush into anything. As hard as that was, I really was ok with it as I could see myself really liking this woman.

Our third date was at Bix. Towards the end of a long, leisurely, very romantic dinner she tells me that she really really likes me and that she can see us being together. My head was spinning! Because she likes me so much she tells me that she has the need to be completely transparent with me. She proceeds to tell me that school is very expensive and time consuming and she comes from a modest background financially. I'm thinking to myself, that's ok. I can deal with that. No big deal... Hmmm??? How is it that she drives a nice car, wears such expensive clothing and jewelry and can afford her apartment in Nob Hill?

She confesses to me that she is a high class call girl. That totally blows my young naive mind. I am in shock. At first, I don't really believe her but as she calmly answers my questions, I realize that she is not kidding.

She explains that it is just sex and that there is no intimacy involved. It is just a job for which she is paid a lot of money for not very much time. She continues to patiently answer every single one of my questions. I am trying to remain as calm as possible even though my head is swimming.

We part that evening and she tells me that she really hopes that I can handle what she's told me and that she very much wants to continue to see me. That was the last time I ever saw her.

That really isn't as unusual as you would think. When I had an office in the city I purchased a used filing cabinet. While cleaning it out I found a stack of job apps from an escort agency of all things. Before I shredded them I googled a few names. The escorts to be were all suburban girl next door types looking to make some fast money in the city.

....and all along I thought the money shot was going to be when your hand started going up stream and you got a fistful of bockwurst. It also sounds like the set up to every stand up comic's favorite joke that ends with the punch line. " P.S. I left your #* in the sink."

I was young. I messed up. I should've sampled the goods before I got all emotional about it. I did, however, later on get to slip the hot link to one of Heidi Fleiss' girls. She didn't tell me til after. Alas, she was not terribly bright.

A Cal PhD English major who gave you the free goods? I would have kept her around longer. If nothing else, maybe she could have helped straighten out your Dickens and Longfellow. :rimshot

Hastings Law School isn't THAT closely situated next to the O'Farrell Theater.

In any event, better female independent contractor talent pool from Golden Gate or USF Law School.

Just curious, but how much did the Heidi Fleiss girl charge? I'm curious to see what the going rate is these days for a high-end service provider.
