When I was in sixth grade I came home from school with an A grade on a math assignment. I was beaming and expected my mother to be proud. First thing she asks is if I got the highest grade in class. No. She was a little blonde girl. That's what really pissed mom off. She couldn't believe that she was better at math than me. Tried to hit that later but was severely rebuffed. Damn, she grew up to be pretty hot. Went to fUCLA IIRC.

That's a bad ass mom. I didn't even get in trouble at home for drawing two titties in the 5th grade. I did get shown a big leather belt though by the old white woman principal. Looking back I'm not really sure what exactly she was planning on doing with the belt. Maybe my drawing turned her on.

Brings to mind Jimmy Conners' mom . When he lost a junior tennis tournament his mom came down on the court and smashed a tuna sandwich in his face. I wonder if we could get her to attend a Cal basketball game? Tiger mom on Bill Maher now.

She's not Chinese, but at some point when I was a teenager, she began immersing herself in Chinese culture, language and medicine. She studied at a (shady-ish) "university" for Chinese medicine. She tried to learn the language (Mandarin?). She frequented Chinatown. She glued seeds to my ear. She made me drink that nasty herbal medicine. She visited Beijing. She used me as an acupuncture dummy. This went on for 15 years or so. Nothing concrete came out of it, but she's still obsessed with Chinese medicine.

Just shows how politicians can screw things up. In trying to give similarly diverse readings at Cal as in the general population they actually skewed it way, way off in another direction. So much for social engineering. But some can rest assured that whites were taken down, but what happened to blacks and Latinos in doing so? One big whoops. What was corrected by interfering? I guess one answer would be that the general academic quality of students at Cal went up. But was that the purpose? Think not. Thank goodness our trust is in Lindsay, or Monty, or Dykes and not in the government.

I don't remember Connerly, but from your link, I can understand why it may have happened. It looks like he was promoting socio-economic affirmative action rather than race based affirmative action. Either way, Asians were going to be on the wrong side of the policy. Instead of being restricted by quotas, they would be penalized for the previous generations hard work to achieve economic success.

Of course, I may be totally wrong since I was a student when this whole thing started rolling. I was busy with baseball and school and didn't become aware of the whole thing until a couple of confrontations on Sproul.
