Do you think the Jalil thing is a "toughness" issue that Sonny has alluded to last year? From my understanding, he had surgery (at the end of the year) to repair some cartilage, which was bothering him. It is my understanding that this is a pain issue and he was actually cleared to practice and play.

Now we are holding him out for spring (this makes 1 full year) for seemingly a pain issue...I was really high on Jalil after his freshman, but I'm not really going to expect from him this year, sads.

I believe that he ended up getting micro-fracture surgery as well - certainly nothing related to toughness. It is really difficult to play with that type of chronic knee pain. If the surgery went well, he should be a full strength for the summer and into the season.

That was my understanding. If true, it is understandable that his recovery has taken longer than some might have anticipated.

It is hard to predict how much Jalil will be able to contribute but if he can get healthy, it would be a big benefit to the defense in 2014.

You would need 13 football players.

haha my bad. i was thinking 3-5-3. my point being that if you dont have the extra DT in the game, then just bring an extra linebacker into the game and put him in the box and dare them to pass. of course we'd need our secondary to play solid defense in that situation. but i assume that atoe would probably fit nicely into this type of defense

No, not toughness at all. His injuries last year really affected his strength and drive. Dykes said they could've played him but his injuries limited his effectiveness to the point that he would've been worse out there than the other DT's so they thought it better to give him more rest and recovery time. They just need him healthy and able to play with burst again.

I've admittedly been out of the loop a bit; is there an update on Scarlett's health/ability to play Spring ball? Has he recovered from the chronic hand issue? Thanks.

he's been cleared to practice, but I think he's going to be limited during Spring football (that's the last thing I read)

Did keeping him out last year give him an extra year? I thought he was supposed to be a senior this year but calbears.com has him listed as a junior in the updated spring roster. Those listings are for fall. For example, Muhammed is listed as a sophomore even though he is still a freshman through the end of spring.

So do we have him for 2 more seasons or just 1?

Last year was his rs year since Jalil played as a frosh, so yes, he's a junior in eligibility next season and has two years remaining.

Did Jalil play both his freshman and sophmore seasons and redshirt his junior year? You left out his sophmore season so it sounds like he redshirted his sophmore year and still lost a year of eligibility...
if he sat out two years, could he possibly get a medical redshirt for a sixth year?

He played in both his true freshman and sophomore years. Last year was his redshirt year. If he misses another year to injury, he could petition for a 6th year after the end of his 5th year.

Anyone know if Hardy will be ready for contact next week? I know he had a foot injury that resulted in surgery. Updates MB?

Last I heard, he'll be very limited in spring practice.

Thanks Moraga, sounds as if a lot of the guys that nursed injuries during the break will be somewhat limited, that makes sense...

It's been written (by someone) that LB will be a bit thin during spring ball.
Any word on what practices will be like if contact is limited to avoid further injury at LB (or other positions)?

The only LB that I heard was healing was Hardy! Do we have more guys on the mend? (Jefferson and Barton are healthy as far as I know)
