Its strictly a Cal tradition.

Stanford pretty much regularly abandons their traditions (which sucked anyways), but the new ones are almost all worse than the ones they replaced (though I can't see how they can get worse than the Baned and the "Tree").

...so we've got that going for us.

Nobody from my high school went to Furd (Cal was as good as it got.)

I've spent more time with Ukrainians and Russians and Afghans than I have with Furdies.

No, probably not what you're thinking (I've never been to Russia, Ukraine or Afghanistan). I went to high school in a Russian/Middle Eastern area. Also, I once had 3 Ukrainian roommates.

Or to put it better, she's the most famous of the many Jewish immigrants who fled the USSR and established themselves in the area north of my high school.

More importantly, she is poised to become the 2nd alumna of my high school to marry Ashton Kutcher.

If it's true that we react more to red than they to blue, it makes me wonder if the difference is inherent in the colors, or inherent in the school's respective alumni. What if (hold back your vomit for a second) everything else was the same except Cal's colors were red and theirs were blue. Would we still react the same?

I can't imagine us reacting the same way to "Yale Blue," even if it was associated with Furd. It's just so non-objectionable, pleasant, and ubiquitous. This makes me think it's more about the colors themselves. Red is more obnoxious than blue.
