Grant Hill called him out for it on the March Madness Post Game report.

Grant - "First of all, Bernie - did Aaron Rodgers go to Wisconsin?"
Bernie - "He went to Cal"
Grant - "Then why is he in the lockeroom?"

Depressing really.

If we'd done anything in football or bball as of late i'd feel more empowered to criticize . . . But at least he is giving himself something to cheer about. He has lived in the state for close to ten years. Any school outside of wisonnnnnsin and id feel differently.

I didn't have a problem with it but I did tweet to his official account: "so long as you don't wear any red, you're good. You know the rules."

No big deal. He identifies with the state where he works and lives. It's not like he is choosing between them and Cal.

Who cares? He's supporting his (currently) local team. Our major programs have done nothing of relevance in recent years.

Aaron is a stand-up dude who supports his community where he works.

Proud to have him as a Bear!

Oh really? Cal women went to Final Four in 2013. How quickly we forget. I didn't see him hanging out with them.

Our team's not even in the tourney, so who cares? Geez, people get so uptight about the stupidest things. He's endearing himself to the locals.

What if Cal was in UW situation and Colin Kaepernick tried to come into Cal's locker room to celebrate? I'd be like, "what the f you doing here? You didn't go here." This whole thing makes Aaron and UW look like losers.

If Cal played a sweet 16 in Oakland and won and Kap came in the locker room I'd say that was a generous and classy gesture.

Rodgers can do whatever he wants. By his actions since he left he's made it pretty clear he doesn't care much about Cal. Too bad, but it is what it is. We'll survive.

That's a ridiculous comment. Local support is nothing to hate on. Classy gesture especially when it comes from the best player on the flagship pro program in the state.

I agree but I see both sides. In AR's case, he has always supported local and/or Wisconsin teams in an effort to rally others which is a good thing...OTOH, some athletes never support locals but when someone is winning, all of a sudden they are in the locker room for a photo op which is f'd up IMO because they are simply bandwagoning to show how cool and famous they are... in this case, AR does this all the time on all levels of play or organizations which is pretty cool.

Can you cite a single Cal event he's attended since he left? I'm honestly curious because I can't. I'm not bashing the guy, but I'm not ignoring his actions either.

I'm talking strictly about his relationship with Wisconsin events which this thread is about when someone said it was tacky going in the locker room.... because he has a history of supporting Wisky events....I'm not commenting on his behavior towards Cal football at all...he may in fact be a jerk in that regard, I don't know. I don't follow most Cal athletes around like many here to see if they are "all Cal"...like saying they are from Cal in their NFL bios..

Oh, ok. I thought those replies were directed at me. I guess I'd feel differently about this if he was also a big public supporter of Cal. Then it would just be he supports both. But since he's totally absentee on Cal, it's pretty lame imho. Cal needs all the PR help it can get, and he's a pretty high profile former attendee.

Yeah, he supports the Bucks and Brewers, too. I get that college is different since he didn't actually go to Wisconsin and did go to Cal, but I think college sports is different in places like Wisconsin where pretty much all the locals support the team and not just their alumni. Aaron Rodgers is the face of Wisconsin sports. I believe the state even had an Aaron Rodgers day on 12/12/12. It's good for his brand to do these types of activities and endear himself to the very fans who buy his jerseys and buy tickets to Packers games.

Haha! funny story: He showed up to a hoops game in '04 wearing a Fresno hoodie, then refused to take it off amid the "take off that red shirt" chants.

He has no connection to Cal since JT left. I can't say I blame him either. As near as I can tell, he never really had much of a connection anyway - no more than Butte I guess. Just another step in his career path.

Edit: It was Chico State, not Fresno. I have a source but its on a competitor's site. =(

Agree. This love of all things Wisky seems a bit much. Once he is retired and living in San Diego or wherever I seriously doubt he will be seeking out Wisky events.

He's attended Cal Football games hasn't he? Wasn't it something like he's only ever attended games where Cal lost?

Honestly I don't know, and that's a big part of the "problem" from my perspective. There's never been a photo op appearance with him I don't think like DeSean did taking the mic man over during a game or Marshawn did attending the televised spring game last year. At least I can't recall any.

I don't really care what he does with other Wisconsin teams and get the PR angle there completely. But I only care about Cal, so I'd prefer if he was highly visible in his support of Cal. I wish Marshawn would embrace the media spotlight that's available to him now more too and use it to help promote Cal, but at least with him I know from specific examples that he supports Cal. Heck I've even seen him "sneaking" into CMS in all A's gear hoodie pulled up just to see a game. If Rodgers has done things like that too I'd love to know, but it's my perception that he hasn't. What I do know is I can't recall any public association of his brand with Cal's since he left.

Cal football game, 2005 (he was asked on the sidelines about Joe Ayoob).
Cal football game, 2006 (if I recall correctly)
Cal football game at Rose Bowl, 2007 (I have screenshots of him there, but not easily accessible at the moment).

I think he went to every Cal football game during his bye week through 2010 or 2011. (I think he went to a Butte game his 2012 bye week.)

There was one game where he was on the sidelines with Desmond Bishop, when we lost badly to Oregon.

He kept complaining that we'd lose every time he'd visit.

I think it's more about not wanting to appear to be endorsing Tedford's successor, especially when Dykes hasn't earned his endorsement.

I'm sure, though, that Dykes would be very pleased to take a photo with Rodgers.

I bet he would. But Rodgers already stated that he wasn't happy with what went down with Tedford. But I don't see him coming back to support cal until we get a new coach. And more importantly, when we actually can win more then 8 games.
