Here's the latest on Oregon State's incoming QB situation:

"Quarterback Luke Del Rio, transferring from Alabama, will be on hand for spring ball but will have to sit out next season. … Quarterback Zach Kline, who left California's program after last season, continues to communicate with OSU coaches that he will transfer to Oregon State. Kline will be at Berkeley City College through spring term and be on hand for August training camp. "

Could someone explain like I am an idiot how Zach is getting out of "sitting out a year"? Or is it a quirk in the Football calendar?

Hes not transferring directly i guess hes going to cc, its not really certain he will end up at osu. Its all smiles and handshakes right now

If he's "on hand for August training camp", that doesn't mean he can play in games this fall, just that he can participate in camp and then practices during the year he's ineligible.

Kind of like Cal basketball players Cobbs and Kreklow did when they transferred here.

He's better off to play at a cc in the fall and then enter his chosen 4 yr in the spring. That way: 1. He can keep up his in-game skills; 2. Show the world what he can do; and 3. Keep his options open.

Of course, there is a risk - that he's not as good as he purports and that this will be revealed in his yr of playing at said cc. After all, he did not beat out a true FR on a team that was 3-9 the year before. Yeah, yeah, I know - "he didn't get a fair shot." But, would the coaches have kept him on the pine if he were demonstrably better, even with their "biases," even in a 1-11 season? Anything's possible, I suppose.

If Rubenzer is as good as advertised that could prove to be a powerful 1-2 combination.
