Basketball: made it to the Elite Eight this year; but, there are concerns about the future without Montgomery

Football: struggled last year, but it was the first year for an entirely new coaching staff plus we had a VERY tough non-conf schedule; the Bear Raid will turn it around this year with a more experienced quarterback running the show

Baseball: currently in the top 1/2 of the conference; went to Omaha very recently

Again, we are very strong across the board right now, but Football needs to prove it to me this year and once we hire a top hoops coach I'll be more comfortable looking ahead

Thoughts?

Our baseball program under Stanford alum Dave Esquer is absolutely not in the "top half of the conference". We are next to the bottom, ahead of only Utah.

For 14 of the 15 years under Esquer we have been about average, which means mediocre, which means we have sucked as far as I'm concerned.

As long as Dave Esquer is in charge, we will never have a program that is in the "top half of the conference". Unfortunately, too few Cal fans care enough to demand a necessary change in leadership and Sandy Barbour doesn't know anything about Baseball.

I think we are a bit of a sleeping giant type program in baseball (again, we went to Omaha in recent history)

The 'Elite eight' in basketball???? That is funny. I'm going to use that. I think we actually made the 'Elite sixty-eight' in basketball.

here's a direct quote from the article I just linked:

"The Cal men’s basketball team has advanced to the Elite Eight. ...the Bears are still one of just eight ... teams still dancing."

I think you're being honest with your mistake here. We made it to the "Top 8" (I don't want to call it "Elite 8") of the NIT tournament. This is not the same as the bracket/real March Madness/NCAA tourney. That's why some people get rubbed the wrong way. We made the NIT bracket, not the first big bracket where the top 60-something teams make. Being top 8 of NIT bracket is not the same as Elite Eight. Unfortunately hardly anyone cares about the NIT.

How many programs have done the Elite8 and Fight Hunger Bowl in the same year ? I'm calling it. Call me a dreamer but I'm not the only one.

You are obviously a kind and charitable person. Unfortunately if you read some of SouthBay's other posts you will see there is nothing at all honest about his mistake.

I bet very few if any. I'll bookmark this thread to (hopefully) come back later this year with a "high five" for you if it plays out.

Cal baseball has had some recent success, but is overall pretty mediocre, even if just confined to the west coast. Oregon, UCLA, UW, OSU and a few of the CSU are all better programs right now. We also have some of the most outdated facilities in the Pac, though UCLA's aren't all that great either. Admittedly, we have been making improvements to Evans, but if the three big monsters are football, bball and baseball, our bball and baseball stadiums are on the low end.

Oregon's PK Park:

UW's Husky Ball Park:
http://blogs.seattletimes.com/huskyfootball/2014/03/20/touring-new-husky-ballpark/
OSU's Goss Stadium:

Not to mention SC's or Sunken Diamond. The Baseball alumni are awesome, but does Sandy really care?
