He said less wide receiver screens and more down the middle, and we have good wide receiver action.

But with tTFS, we will have a steady diet of screens and outs.

Still, good that someone (and an all-Pac-10 WR at that) believes in one of our units.

sine TF loves the 1-2 yard pass play it won't matter.

Now, if we just can find comparable quality in the OL and all across the D we'll be in business!

Any of all talent that could be good at corner?

I would think good WRs would be able to hammer out some big plays on those 1&2 yard passes

Why not?

I think under Wes Chandler the ends were more effective in blocking.
Knockdowns and persistent contact

Yeah I seem to recall people praising the receivers (including young ones like Treggs) for their blocking in 2012 and then turn around and accuse the same players like Treggs for poor blocking in 2013. I think the blocking deficiency must be due to coaching changes or something.

i have been wondering that since wes left ... it is the offense or technique or coaching ... BERK18 ? or MB

Cal throws very few pass plays farther than 10 yards downfield and a lot around the line of scrimmage or behind it. This predictability allows defenses to come in closer and attack the line of scrimmage on running plays or down the line screens, etc. The Bears need to prove that they can pass down the field to back off opposing defenses next season. GO BEARS!

Yeah, that is my point; Bad WR's get that short play and dont beat the first guy, 2 yard gain.

Shouldn't good receivers be able to make a guy miss more often, while a second WR blocks effectively, and everyone else is crowding the LOS, turning a 2 yard pass into a TD more often? It is basically Oregon's entire offense - Get the D out of position so they cant recover from a minor mistake, make one guy miss and effective blocking leads to ridiculously simple plays turning into touchdowns...

If he cant beat the defender it is a short gain and a PITA for the D anyway.

Now that Goff is a year older, and the WR's are a year older, maybe this is when that happens.

It's not so much tFS. Our OL was not good, and with a freshman QB, didn't have much choice but to throw short outs

watch the replay of LATech Vs Texas A&M to see the tFS in action under ideal conditions.

Basically it was a million dink and dunks, with the occasional downfield throw. Who knew throwing the ball would be so boring? I really hope we see something different this season.

You might have a misunderstanding of the offense. In 18's stripped down explanation of the offense, it is made clear that EVERY play is designed as a long pass IF the receiver correctly reads the defense. The previous poster's point was, "good receivers, properly running tFS, will get open", IF there is time for a reasonably talented quarterback to make similar reads. No blocking=no time=no chance.

Didn't help that Goff overthrew almost every long pass by 5 yards except for the 2 key interceptions. Goff has enough arm but he got spooked after his pick in the NU game and became an ineffective long passer.

He also throws the ball out of bounds or worse yet long and out of bounds. I am hoping he throws down field with more confidence this year and throw it short. Get our WRs a chance one on one to come down with the ball. Treggs and Lawler especially are amazing at this and Harper, Davis, Harris, and Austin also excel. Just don't over throw and don't throw it out of bounds and we have a chance.
