Welcome Charles to Cal! Hope you will have a great career here!
The Bears scored another big recruiting pickup with the commitment of Westlake wide receiver Charles Davis today. Davis was coming off an unofficial visit to UCLA and had been tightly linked to Oregon as well before Davis chose the Bears.
The 6-5/200 junior has been recruited as a WR/TE hybrid but the Bears like his length at receiver. In his high school career so far, the 4 star athlete has compiled 69 catches, 1,029 yards, 13 TDs over two varsity seasons, including an impressive 11 as a junior.
"Cal just felt like the right place for me overall," Davis said. "The coaching staff really stood out. They made it clear how I fit into their system and how they plan to develop me both on and off the field The culture, education, and the opportunity to compete at a high level all played a big role in my decision.
"As for the wide receiver coaches and the rest of the staff, I think really highly of them They’re genuine, knowledgeable, and you can tell they care about their players. That trust and belief in me meant a lot and made the decision even easier
Davis’ brother Niles was a versatile athlete himself as a prep, adding 41 passes for 618 yards and 10 touchdowns for Westlake last fall on offense before signing with Cal as a DB last December.
"I'm definitely excited to be playing with Niles," Davis said. "It's going to be special getting to play on the same field together."
Besides Davis’s elite size and speed (10.8 100), he’s also seen as a dominant red zone threat and strong blocker.
Besides beating out finalists UCLA and Oregon, Davis also had offers from Georgia, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Miami, Nebraska and more.
Davis joins fellow receiver commit Blake Gunter (Southlake, TX), Houston RB “AJ” Antwon Sanders, Sutter DE Troy Bowens, Grant edge Giovanni Hodge, AZ LB Gunnar Perry, Sierra Canyon safety Myles Baker and IMG Academy kicker Zach Brien in the Bears' 2027 recruiting class.
