OT question (I guess) - Pac 12 Network on DISH in Sacramento

I've had Surewest for the last several years and got the Pac-12 Network completely in HD. We just moved and Surewest does not serve this area so I went with DISH (I've heard too many complaints about U-Verse and have had bad experiences with Comcast). I'm using the Hopper and the Pac-12 shows that were always in HD on Surewest, which were all of them including the Pac-12 Sports Report, are in standard definition on channel 406 on DISH. DISH claims that it's because the network is broadcasting in SD which doesn't make sense since they were in HD on Surewest. The Pac-12 website says that they broadcast in both HD and SD and it's up to the provider as to which they show.

The expanded channels on DISH (406-01, 406-02, etc.) that show that they are HD simply have a banner that says that there is currently no game on for that channel band and to check back later.

Can anyone shed any light for me? How can I get everything in HD and most importantly, will I get the games in HD? There was a baseball game on earlier on the main channel (406) only in SD. Thanks!

I can't say for certain, but a friend has Dish, and from what I could tell, Dish will broadcast Pac-12 in HD when a major live game is happening, and in SD at other times. The reason for this is that satellites have a finite capacity, and can't broadcast every channel for which there is an HD feed 24/7. (I think they disable switch a PPV HD channel to SD whenever Pac-12 goes HD.)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

Thanks, CalAlumnus--that makes sense. I hope the games are, in fact, in HD.

All LIVE games are HD.

However I really I wish it was full-time HD

Nope! You are right only certain events are HD. All of the games last year were in HD. Still have them in my DVR in HD!
