Not so sure about this. Currently have a family member (athletic) who is more or less guaranteed a spot at one of the service academies because of combined GPA and athletics. I know this person cannot get into Cal/UCLA/'furd right now, and would really rather go to Davis, but not sure there either. Athletes at the academies, if I am correct on this, bypass so many of the entrance requirements of regular students (congressional sponsor, super high ACT or SAT scores, etc.). Makes me think not everyone at the academies are top notch students. Don't get me wrong, this family member is slightly over 4.0 GPA with 29 ACT (first try) but that doesn't get you into the top schools, but does to the academies.
