SB isn't perfect but she did a heck of a lot and got Cal stuff it needed (like no other AD in Cal history). I don't think finding an equal or "better" replacement is an easy task but maybe Dirks knows something, or has someone lined up.

If true, thanks Sandy for the years of hard work.

Now time for Cal to step up and take advantage of the opportunity to get better. On this one I'd like somebody who understands how to run a major revenue business, who understands major sports, who is innovative, and who has the Cal ties to understand the community.

I realize it is a lot to ask.

the credit to Sandy goes for getting the stadium built. but guess what, its built already. her weaknesses in contract negotiation, tedford's contract, Buh's contract, and hiring Dykes led to arguably the worst football season in Cal history. her weaknesses are clear-she just isnt good at the operations portion of an athletic department. the decisions she makes shows little foresight and we're always in the position where we're trying to fix mistakes after the fact.

Well said. Remember the people sick of JT who wanted him to go (including me) and who now criticize SD for not doing as well as JT (not including me).

If you're a coach and your AD is "leaving", you better start winning and by that I mean more than 4 games a season if you want to stay around. The clock is running Sonny.

Admin and major donors gave the go-ahead on the stadium and CMS, she executed. It wasn't pretty but given the bureaucratic clusterf*ck that is Cal...she got it done.

On a serious note, do you think any of her predecessors could have pulled it off? See I don't think so.

I wouldnt mind bringing her in for some consulting work if we try to build a basketball practice and training center but i still dont want her hiring anymore coaches or negotiating anymore contracts. Navigating our rich donors does take some skill, but its not what we need right now

Yeah mixed emotions. I like SB and what she got done, especially when you consider how difficult it is to get anything done at Cal...but it's business, BIG business now.

Yeah I'm not saying the move wasn't needed or wise. Maybe Dirks has a real vision and some people in mind. Still, until we know who the next AD is, can't say it will be an upgrade or improvement. Maybe we will get someone better. If rumors are right, Dirks wanted Martin. I'm just saying before everyone jumps for joy...consider the unknown at this time.

This means the long national nightmare of the clown crew will last only 2 years. Dirks wants "his guy" (or gal) to be in place so that when Sonny goes in November he has an AD who understands football and has deep ties to the coaching community. Given the Martin hire, I am expecting an AD or Assistant AD from a power conference.
