Hope all was meant in jest, but if not, this is one of those borderline comments where it is all OK to pick on those on top, but never the opposite. Seems a bit seamy. Just one of those what's good for one is good for the other with me.

"Was it over when they bombed Brasilliaville?"

Get out there and do it!

They keep showing that girl crying.

She was crying after the second goal.

That makes me sad.

It doesn't really matter what the Germans do, they are always the villains.

With Neymar and Silva out, I think so.

The Saudis played a better match against the Germans in 2002.

the team with arguably the worst sportsmanship in the tournament quits and throws in the towel at the first sign of defeat. Shocking.

France can now say, "Finally, someone who bent over and took it harder from the Germans than we usually do. Our 1940 team put up a better fight."

Dude...

This is like the second worst atrocity they have committed. (joke from the interwebz)

But really... It is not often you see a team score a bazillion points.

Actually I love Ozil (also that I am an Arsenal fan). I didn't see either of these, but reports are that he missed an easy goal on purpose (when it was 7-0), and he also called his own offsides. That's sportsmanship. Or does that make Brasil mad and they take this as patronizing? In any case, it's really shameful for Brasil.

Wow. Brazil's first competitive loss on home soil since 1975:

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/07/brazil-loss-germany-world-cup-since-1975

In 1975, Brazil lost 3-1 to Peru, ironically in the same city (Belo Horizonte). Since then they have had a 39 year, 68 match home win streak in competitive games. Of the 68 games, they won 50, with 18 draws. What a way for the streak to end. Edited to add: ok maybe that count is wrong as I'm seeing 63 elsewhere, not 68 for the undefeated streak. Still, that's an f-load of competitive home games without losing.

Note that the 'competitive' qualifier means that the above record excludes 'friendly' games that are played outside the bounds of any official competition, but certainly includes World Cup, World Cup qualifying, Confederations Cup etc.

It wasn't on purpose. He just missed.

I'd like to see Germany get a chance to avenge the 1986 loss to Argentina. I hated the flop against Mexico last week by the Dutch. And I loke the idea of two continents facing off.

Nah we could see that in Euro 2016. Let's see Messi v. Muller. That would be fun.

Holland won't have van Gaal, he has them playing better than their roster's quality. Tomorrow is going to be an intriguing game, Messi vs a well-organized team that is going to be bent on shutting him down. If Belgium gets a decent coach they will be the better team in the Benelux.

And France has never lost a World Cup or European championship at home, in two years we will have a pretty good team in place.

Germany has just got it together, they have been constantly improving under Lw. Yogi has gone with youth back in 2008 and now he has a very cohesive and experienced team that plays very well together.

Brazil was exposed today, even with Neymar and Thiago Silva they would have still lost decisively. It's really astonishing that they don't have a single decent striker behind Neymar, who himself failed to break the top 20 goalscorers in La Liga. You have to feel bad for the people there, this is a very bitter pill to swallow, and with the next WC in Russia they're not likely to go further. It's too bad they didn't lose to Colombia, that would have spared them the trauma.

TV analysts said that Brazil came out sky-high, but disorganized. Then, the roof caved in. It might be more accurate to say that they gave up AFTER the game started.

Truly an epic, historic shellacking. It would be like Big Game last year happened in a year when we both came in 10-1 and ranked in the top five.

What flop? I hope you're not talking about the foul that gave them a PK...because that was only a flop if you are a Mexican...

A flop like that made me want to be a Mexican, and disavow any part of my family who came from Witmarsum in Holland--at least for a week.

This is what I saw from Cal's defense last year -- pretty much every game. It wasn't talent and injuries (they were contributing factors) so much as disorganization. How linebackers and defensive backs were going the wrong way, hitting the wrong gaps, and whiffing on tackles that could be reasonably made -- was just pure chaos. I expect Art Kaufman to restore order. I just want a defense that is solid, fundamental, organized, and full of players that have been coached up with the right techniques and situational savvy. That does not mean that an NFL type running back, receiver or QB won't burn them on occasion simply due to elite talent. But that means we don't give away free plays like we did pretty much every other play last season. That does not require elite talent level.

This post takes the thread of the OT category LOL.

The real flop was Mexico's decision to go into a defensive shell, essentially concede most of the field to Holland, after scoring. For a moment I thought Tedford had become Mexico's coach.
