Non stop posting negative messages even on welcome to Cal recruiting threads makes you a negabear. Negabear as in a negative bear fan. As in someone who is always negative no matter what about the Bears. Hell our APR improved greatly this year, we are in the best academic standings we have been in years and some people still complained!! There are plenty of people that think 3-4 wins this year, that aren't happy with they way things currently are or happy with 3-4 wins, that don't have every post slamming any and every thing about this program. Just gets old really quick. Most aren't even rational comments or well thought out. Not saying you directly just in general. freshfunk or whatever would be a good example. Hell I haven't even called anyone that I can remember a negabear. Just said all the negativity is getting old. Just as I am sure some of the sunshine pumping can get old also, but at least sunshine pumping isn't a huge insult to our newly committed players.

My point was simple... If you don't truly believe we can win more than 2 games lets make a wager. Never said my stakes were great and actually have admitted they weren't that good of an idea compared to others. I also admitted that I let my frustration come out in my OP... Of course I can admit when I am wrong and it seems others can't... Again not saying you directly Phantomfan just in general.

You know what gets old? Getting blown out 10 times in a season. That gets old a lot faster than anything posted here.

And now you are changing the subject. I've never criticized a recruit on his thread and I've told others not to either. That has nothing to do with what I think the performance of the staff has been nor whether that performance makes me confident in our success this year. If you have an issue with someone that bashes recruits, I encourage you to take it up with them. That is not what you said this was about.

It's becoming plain that you are just upset about the fact that when you root for a 1-11 team not everyone is going to be talking about gum drops, lollipops, and unicorns.

I'll stop saying Sonny is performing badly when he stops performing badly.

I'm not sure how I got roped into your little crusade against the world considering I've barely posted in the off season. But here is your *tiny violin*.

Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on how the wins and losses look.

Flat out, I have a long posting record here that shows that I will support coaches that give me anything to work with. I supported Tedford. I supported Monty. And heck, I gave Braun the benefit of the doubt longer than most. You can try and paint me as someone who will make the same judgment no matter what the facts are, but that is total BS. I'd look in the mirror, buddy. You are supporting a coach who had the worst season in school history, who won one game, barely, against an FCS opponent, who lost on average 46-23, and who got blown out by 50 by the school rival. You know what happens to coaches that do that anywhere else? They get fired. I'm not the one with the bizarre, illogical conclusion here.

So while you are telling people to step up to their predictions, tell me if we don't win 3, will you acknowledge that maybe Dykes is not a wonder coach. What will it take for you to say the coach didn't do a good job? Based on your support of last year's performance, I'd have to guess their is no performance bad enough for you to draw that conclusion.

You seem to think this may be all directed at you. I said not necessarily you and I meant it. You also seem to think I was happy with last year. I, again like always, had season tickets and had to sit through that garbage. I am predicting 4-5 wins which means I am probably going to sit through a lot more losses again this year. It sucks and I am not happy with it. I think getting blown out in every game was no excuse and I blame Sonny for that. I think he didn't do very well at all in that regard especially. That said I understand why we bad last year (maybe not as bad as we were) and that was do to lack of experience and upperclassmen with a ton of injuries to our best players thrown in. You can't start an OL of FR, FR, SO, JR, FR all but one with playing experience and that one moved to Center where he played for his first time ever late in the year. I thought he did pretty good there also. That doesn't even mention the FR RB starting, FR QB starting, young WRs playing etc. I don't think Nick Saban could have won with our team last year... Now granted he wouldn't have been blown out nearly as much. We had like 8 or 9 SRs last year and we only have like 8 or 9 this year... That is total Schollie SR players while most teams have that many SRs just in their 2 deep alone. To me we are still very young, but should show much improvement. I expect 4-5 wins... 3 wins would be a bad season and a good sign Sonny won't work. 4 an OK season showing some improvement and worth seeing when we finally have some SR leadership and SRs playing. 5 wins puts us right on target to have a very good 2015 and very good with this young team. 6+ wins is way above any expectations with this current roster shows that Sonny is taking us to great things.

So no... 2 or less he should be fired right away. 3 wins and he should be looked at as possibly firing depending on how bad this team played again and if we showed signs of improvement... 4 wins and it means lets give him a chance and see if he can make this happen... 5+ I am hopeful for 2015 and beyond. That is just me though and only my opinion on things.

I don't support Sonny blindly, but I do know that young inexperienced teams rarely win and last year was insane. I have never seen anything like it really. I have never seen an Off start 6 FR, 3 SO, and 2 JRs in a college game before... EVER. I can tell you no matter who the coach is that is not going to win very much. I am not even going to go to the Def where we had a 160lb true freshman CB starting at Safety. Can you at least agree that with what Sonny had to work with the chances of us being bad last year was high?

I am not changing the subject one bit.... I never said you were a negabear. I gave an example of what I thought a negabear is per your post of saying if say 2 wins your a negabear and 3 means you are a realist. That isn't changing the subject that is addressing your post on the subject of negabear.

Again you miss the point completely if you think I was happy with a 1-11 team.... I am just not going to keep being pissed about last year. I went a looked and I see possible reasons why we were not going to be good. Should we of been as bad as we were? Hell no I am not happy with that at all. That was last year though. This year is a new team and I feel like this team with our experience should be able to get 4-5 wins... 4-5 wins is not good at all, but with what we have to work with that is step in the right direction. Do you not agree with that?

You have no sense of proportion. Of course we weren't going to be good last year. I was here at this time last year telling people that they were getting ahead of themselves and they were setting expectations that were unfair to Dykes. But that team should have pulled in 3-5 victories. Simply no excuse losing to CU, let alone getting blown out. Go look how they did against the rest of the conference-for the most part they got blown out worse than we did.

What I did expect was something positive to build on. We didn't get it.

As for injuries and youth, it was worse on defense. I'm not judging Sonny any more harshly than Sonny judged Buh.

Yeah I agree with a lot of that. We shouldn't have been blown out as much and we should have beat CU. Last year sucked and really 4-5 wins isn't going to be that much better... Well no let me take that back 3 wins... no even 2 wins over last year will be better because that sucked. Still 4-5 wins means we will lose 7-8 games. I expect at least a few will be blow outs as well. The last 2 years have been insanely horrible to watch and extremely hard to be a Cal fan

OOOH! always fun to read how people said that we have one of the toughest schedules in the country! they're not saying that anymore though... now all there's left to blame is youth and depth.

and as far as how many easy games the SEC schedules....i'd still take their conference over ours this year.

I suspect there are many who voted 4 or more wins don't really believe Cal will win that many games this year. They just want to be able to say Dykes didn't perform to their expectations in case Cal does win more than 2 games.

i voted Cal would win 4, and could go to a bowl if they head into UW 4-1. OR maybe i voted that high on purpose to make Dykes look bad!!

strawman...?

- more people thought we would win 2 or less (~14%), than people who voted we would win 7 or more (9.4%)--people you think are "intentionally hoping Dykes fails"
- fairly normal distribution of 160 votes, statistically speaking, mean being 4.25 games.

- so given how most ppl voted how i voted, how is it a strawman to say your post was a complete exaggeration??? have you increased your expectations now that we're already 3-1?

I thought we'd win three. Sac St, Colorado and Washington. I've got a lot more chances to be wrong. And I hope I am. If we lose by 10 or less to SC, UCLA or Furd, its a really good season in my view. I don't yet see close games in those matchups.

I didn't think Petersen would run into so many problems in his first season. Colorado and Washington look like good picks for wins.

I hope GB54 keeps posting. My point wasn't really to get takers on the bet. It was to stop the people that were acting like we weren't going to be better and that the rest of the conference got better. The people that acted like rest of the conference got better, but we some how got worse. It was to stop people blasting a recruits star ranking and slamming everything about Cal. Parents and future players read this board and the over the top negativity was out of hand. I wanted all the brash talkers of how bad we were going to be, to admit we were better than the 1 or 2 win team they were saying we were. I completely let GB54 out of the bet and hope he will post.

I also hope that people that complained so much about Cal and how bad this season was going to be can see the improvement that Sonny Dykes has brought to us this year. To give him a chance to build this roster correctly and win here the right way. The right way being with good student athletes. I know last year was frustrating and I know the AZ loss was super frustrating as well. However this team is growing. This team is showing heart. This team is showing that we may be moving in the right direction. Don't you think we should support them and wish them their best rather than slam everything about the program?
