Rick Neweasel on the Pac 12 network giving us a lot of love, along with Conway and Leinart for our NU win. They called for a packed house to jack up the team and show them we cared.

Me, the realist, says 41,000- which is not bad for Sac State....

Yes it would be huge, but how many would actually show up?

Maybe a sellout or close. Sac St was the closest thing to a sure win on the schedule. And after Saturday, which I admit I did not expect, I think lots of doubters like me are now in for the season. I hope for at least 50k.

I don't see Memorial selling out anytime soon. Perhaps for the ucla game if Cal has a few more nice wins by then. Ditto for the Big Game. Sac State?? Come on...

Besides I'm counting on getting some cheap tix off StubHub.

Lots of cheap tickets on stub hub. Don't think its a sell out. 40,000 would be a good crowd,

Yeah, I'd be stoked if we got 40,000 for Sac State. Hopefully 45,000+ for Colorado. Maybe 50,000 for Wash. UCLA packed house. As long as we stay competitive...
I'll be interested to see what happens at Levi's. I won't be there, but I'll be at Memorial for the rest.

Not a chance of that happening. I expect 30,000 to 35,000. Anything more than that will be due to a strong showing by Sac State supporters.

No. I believe it will be a fun crowd though, unlike our Portland State/Southern Utah crowds.

Sac state will bring a fair number, too. They should have done the free extra ticket thing like they used to did for the early minor games.

hoping for a good opening day, but against Sac State I doubt that happens. Fans won't get up for such an opponent, and Sac State won't bring numbers. What happened to the Cal vs San Jose State game? At least SJ State brought some fans.

I'm hoping they are giving away lots of free tickets to students, raffles, etc. just to get people in the seats.
gotta support this team

The campus offered faculty and staff four free tickets each for this game - with a limit of four per staff/faculty member and a total of 4,000 seats.

I did not take advantage because I'm a season ticket holder and did not think I could give them away (the email came this summer before we beat NW)

Sac State will have at least a couple thousand there...

Free tickets were offered last week to campus staff and faculty.

Is it a 12:30 kickoff? Not the best for the "older" students, but probably a good sell for freshmen and mid terms are a long way off..It is the first home game following a Cal win! ..35-40K

Noon? that's weird, is that a P12 Network TV imposition? The student section is going to be a gaping hole until the 2nd qtr...

We should get around 40k or just above it, so the stadium will look fairly full. There were a lot of fans on the margins that were swayed by the NW win, and the fact that it's the opener negates a bit the low caliber of the visitors.

Last year vs FCS Portland State we had 43,594 in attendance. That was coming off a loss and was not the home opener. In 2012 vs FCS Southern Utah we had 57,745. Once again coming off a home loss. After a big road win over Northwestern and this being the home opener, I think 50,000 can be expected. Anything less than 40,000 is not reasonable.

I suspect our attendance will look like it usually does when we play FCS schools. Maybe a little better, but not much. On the bright side, some Cal people I was with were getting real time reports of season ticket sales during the NU game. Bottom line is we sold a bunch of them within minutes of the game ending. As the man always says, winning cures everything.

Thanks for posting this. I'm sure Wilton is well aware.

I can't imagine there will be fewer than 40K. My guess is 45-50K, which would be great. I was incredibly heartened by the huge Cal turnout at Northwestern, particularly considering how bad the last few years have been.

The one thing you have to give Tedford is he made football relevant at Cal again. When I was in school (late 80s early 90s) there might, maybe, be 20K for a game like this.

Also, not to be rude, but I think people are being delusional if they thing Sac State is going to bring a lot of people. Davis brought about 5K a few years ago. I doubt Sac State brings that many - but I could be wrong, and would be happy to be wrong! The more the merrier!

So between 2012 and 2013 there was a 25% reduction in attendance for an FCS opponent after coming off a home loss. Cal plays an FCS team in the 2014 home opener after a big road win and a horrendous 2013. If we had lost to Northwestern, we can assume a 25% reduction in attendance from the Portland St. game in 2013 to get an estimate of 32,696 in attendance for Sac St. Since Cal won, and this being the home opener, we increase that number by 25% to get 40,869. That is the magical number I'm sticking with.

I had a friend come watch the NW game and he knows his football. How we looked would determine whether or not he got season tickets. Needless to say, he got them, lol.
