Tedford was never this bold in comments but otherwise I feel like these guys are us 6 years ago.

Fitzgerald has brought them unprecedented success and yet they are hurting for leadership and confidence. They keep thinking of themselves in 2012 when they were top 25 ranked and won 10 games.

Are they us 6 years in the past?

They should have their union vote on a strike. Stop attending classes for free until you win!!!

Thanks for posting. I don't mean to gloat, but I loved reading that article. Coach Fitz is such an arrogant guy...what denial!

I can't imagine a Cal beat writer penning that type of article (and surviving for long in that role), not only re an intimidator like JT but even a nice guy like Sonny. The author must not have to face the head coach for interviews; he must be strictly a keyboard warrior.

One thing great about college football is it's unpredictability. Imagine what the writer would have wrote if we had just kept the 31-7 lead or built on it....

Last year was certainly their parallel to the 2007 Bears, but they did not start out this season like we did in 2008. More like 2012.

Without the knowledge of a fan and just by looking at simple trends, they're taking the fast track towards the bottom instead of the slow downward spiral.

The only reason I'm rooting for Northwestern to do well this season is it will make our win look all the better. Otherwise I agree, the writer of this article is a bitter jackass.

Even the whole union thing is a weird parallel to Cal. Think about that for a second. Would ANYONE at Cal be surprised at all if Cal was the first school to unionize it's football team? I'm actually surprised we didn't, though unions are as big on the west coast. We're more in protest then union territory.

That guy really is all over the bunker mentality of the NU coach. I think we've seen that, right? His dismissal of Cal as a bunch of rookies and losers liable to lose the next nine games in a row, shows he and the mild cats assumed we were a walkover, which is exactly why they lost. without our turnovers this would have been a blowout loss for them.

I say we end up with a better record than them...

Man, I remember when the Daily Cal had unionized employees. The producton side of the paper had a union consisting of mostly non-student "adult" employees that would occasionally go on strike, while the non-unionized editorial side, consisting entirely of students, would make peanuts.. They'd bleed the Daily Cal, a nonprofit organization, dry with more than $30 an hour in salary. That's why the paper was frequently in debt. Eventually, the NLRB held a vote to decertify the union in the late 90s.

I read that to say that Cal should lose 9 after the win, which means he thinks Cal will go 3-9 for the season. There was nothing about 9 in a row or 9 out of the next 10.

Last year they were us in 2012, the year we let go of Tedford. They had a few wins but then they lost 7 straight and the season collapsed. They've now lost 8 out of the last 9 games. I don't follow them too closely but it looks like they have talent but Fitz is losing the team.

Also I found most of their comments about us fair. Imagine we lost to a team that went 1-11 who's only win was against an FCS. People would be calling for heads.

I think it is fair to call this guy a Negawildcat. I'm sure he bleeds purple through and through. However, for those on this board who constantly berate our coaching performance, how do you think this type of criticism, given the broader context of NW's situation, looks from the outside? If a NW recruit was reading this kind of stuff, how might this article influence their choice to commit to the program? How might this type of perspective influence the current players on the team? Might they start to look to the NFL, transfer or adjust their effort on and off the field? I think this kind of stuff matters. Maybe not one single posting or article will change the world, but taken in aggregate a single song can turn into a choir that can have adverse impacts on our football program beyond just deservedly chewing the coach a new arsehole.

A good quote in there ...
Quote:

The Golden Bears have a name with reputation and some excellent pieces, but they’re the young team that beat a group of veterans. It was supposed to be the other way around.

Our team is young but had a huge growth spurt in size and spirit since last season ended ... and they're still growing and learning.
We still have weapons and surprises that are being developed, and a smart bunch of guys who sing with spirit, regardless of how it sounds. They understand "Fight for California" and that's been missing for quite some time.

One more thing the team accomplished at Northwestern: they broke up NW's home winning streak.

The way to make yourself look good is to tell how fantastic your opponents are. NW clearly not elite on the intelligence facet of football.....:headbang

Didn't realize until this weekend that NU had only 2 bowl wins in their entire history and that they were 65 years apart. Makes their trashing of Cal after last year's game look even more pathetic. ASU isn't pounding their chest about Nobel Prizes. Fitz's arrogance doesn't help their reputation either. Excellent school and the posters that have been here this season were fine, but the rest of their online fan base leaves a lot to be desired.
