In my 10 years of watching, this is probably the worst.

Other candidates being the Riley Oregon State clipboardgate game, last years Big Game and that 42-3 massacre in Eugene when we were ranked #5 or #6.

Hmmm... I remember an Arizona loss on that very same field in 2006 that, thanks to a DeSean Jackson toe, cost us a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Watching Cal football since 1971, this was the worst, most gut-wrenching loss.

This could be the best thing to happen to our overconfident team -- or the worst thing.

The 2006 Tennessee loss was so horrible that the forum had to be taken offline, and yet we won a Pac-10 co-championship that year.

I hardly see this as an all-time bad loss, considering where the team was last year.

1990 Big Game was the worst. I could hear a pin drop walking back to my dorm from CMS. How did we lose this game?

No wait, there was a worse one. But I forget the year and some of the details. Cal was temporarily for about 30 minutes, to be ranked the #1 team in the country. I believe I saw this game in UCLA, and all we needed to do was stop the clock and kick a game winning field goal. But the Cal QB tried to run and make a play, and the clock ran out.

Can anyone help me with the details? I believe it was in the early 2000's.

The Southern Miss win was ultimately the worst, most heartbreaking performance in the last 20 years, simply because with a solid asswhooping against that team, Aaron Rodgers would have been shooting Wolverines for sport in the hills of Pasadena. This is just another Dykes' masterpiece. What a fkg clueless way to manage the end of a game....dereliction of duty.

I'm looking at this as an amazing win for Arizona. Hopefully, we can shake this off and continue strongly.

Nothing worse than that loss given how close to the ultimate prize Cal got. 1996 loss to Wazzu on a Pat Barnes fumble at the goal line after starting the season 6-0 was pretty demoralizing too.

This one might not be the worst loss, but it ranks very high.

I was impressed with how well Cal played, what an improvement from last year. Not a badly played loss, but it a loss and an incredible win for U of A. But they will still find a way to break your heart

This is a really bad loss. It reminds us that Cal football will never, ever be good enough for what used to be the Rose Bowl. Maybe the Garden State Bowl will return, and Rich Dixon and Rich Campbell can lead the team to a close loss. The Cal flag will stay up all season, while we still get crushed by Sark's SC team, and my SC neighbors will feel sorry for their Cal brethren.

90 big game. Lost onside kick, then on 4th and forever with 12,seconds left we hit the Qb late stop the clock and the 15 yards put Furd in FG position. They make it. We were up 8 with 2 mins to play and we lost.

Stakes weren't all that high for this game, but if you remove the context and just look at the game itself... that was probably the biggest meltdown I have ever seen in ANY Cal sport.

Yeah, but last year we usually got blown out from the get-go. Up 28-6, we should have won this won. Haven't seen a team collapse like this since Oregon blew a 30-0 lead against us in 1993.

Right at the top -best first half we had in years, led the whole game until the last play. No way in my mind did I think we could lose this, just pitiful….

Not even close to 2007 OSU. Not even close. 2004 USC and 2006 Arizona come as #2 and #3. Or maybe I've just become more cynical as the years pass.

There have been losses that meant more to the program, but in terms of just being a football game this was the worst I've ever seen. I can't remember blowing a huge lead, giving up 36(!) points in the 4th quarter and losing on a last second 50-yard hail Mary.

Don't know why Desean, who had a 95 yard pint return TD gets the blame for that one. Hawkins fell untouched on the 5 and we failed to score (running Marshawn out of the shotgun?) The reason we didn't score when Jackson's TD was called back is Longshore threw his third pick afterward. However the the killer was when Hughes' great pick in the end zone was ruled PI, pretty much giving Arizona the score.

Been watching Cal football since I was a kid in the early '70s. This just feels the worst since it just happened. Given the Bears' recent history, losing this game sucks but not unexpected.

There have been so many heartbreaking games over the decades. Too many to list. The 1990 Big Game pops up.

This is sooooooooooo Cal. At least it went our way once, with The Play.

I will remember this game for the rest of my life. In context, we were smoking them for three quarters. And sad memories of last year were assuaged by an incredible three quarters. Our players played their hearts out, and the better team lost. One more gin and tonic and I 'll be ready for our beat down of Colorado. Love my bears.

Sc loss that year has to rank above So miss win because if we beat SC we would have been undefeated period. National Championship game or Rose Bowl at worse, no mater how many points we beat So Miss by.

Every loss in 2005 was worse than this loss. Those were winnable meaningful games, with a good team, except for Ayoob. There are too many problems with both this team and this coaching staff to have expected much from the Bears this year. I'd expect that most of us realistically tallied this as a loss before the game. So, really, nothing lost, other than some false hope along the way.

Losing this gamed is tragic because Arizona had given us the game, and our coaching staff threw it away. The "Hail Mary" was the last failure, but the play should have never taken place. If Jared had been left in at QB, and we had run a variety of running plays with Lasco and Muhammed, we would have never had to turn the ball over after Goff's last completion. Actually, what is worse than the loss, was realizing we still have no defense against any decent PAC-12 offense. I will be at the Colorado game hoping to see these kids end this awful PAC-12 losing streak, but I suspect the rest of the season could be really ugly. We may end up giving up more scores than last year, and that is a scary thought. I did appreciate the effort shown by the players, but I wonder how long they can keep it up when many of the teams we will be playing in the coming weeks are a lot better than U of A. I agree with Bears Win in that I expected a loss before the game (but not at 1/2 time). A sad day for all Bear fans.

Top 5 loss of the 2000's. Maybe the worst.
