First time in my life I've seen an onside kick where no one on the receiving team tried to field the ball - simply awful.

They literally ran away from the ball. Indefensible.

Rubinzer should have been in a grand total of zero snaps yesterday. Throw the ball on third and six. Try to get a first down and end the game. If you want to run it, leave Goff in so the threat of a pass is there and run, then run again on 4th down. 2 chances to get 6 yards instead of a FG which doesn't end the game anyway. Why take the ball away from your best player, especially when he is hot and it is crunch time?

The single worst play of th game was the 2nd on side kick, to me. Why did 3 Cal guys run away from the ball? There were at least 4 AZ guys who could have recovered it, Cal had no one even close. They literally ran away from the ball. AZ ran the EXACT SAME onside kick 45 seconds earlier and Cal wasn't ready. I don't understand.

Was Dykes asked in the postgame presser why he did not alter the onside kick alignment after the first one was batted out? Or why they snap the ball at 10 seconds when sitting on a lead in the 4th quarter? These seem like basic questions I would like to here answers for.

Why were we snapping the ball with 13 seconds left on the play clock at the end of the game??

This is what these people do for a living - why is it so complicated??

Also after the 3rd down play, instead of calling a time out, they needed to commit an pre-snap penalty, false start or delay of game, since there is an automatic 10 second run off. Take a 5 yard penalty, and put from 35 yard line, and Arizona starts at worst at the 25 yard line and more likely inside the 20 with 10 less seconds

There is no 10 second run off! that is a 25 second run off. One year vs Ucla J Tedford put 12 guys in on offense and ran a play, which in essence was as 2-fer. We get them to accept the penalty and run more clock!

A false start is easier and less tacky though

I am not a big Rubenzer fan. I think he is too small to play QB and his running is an obvious clue to the D. Show me something in the passing department and I may change my mind. Thus far the love affair that the coaching staff has for him is not understandable.

Exactly. I think this was the single worse call of the game, for the reasons you said. Other than this single call, I could say that the coaches called a good game, but that last possession, and in particular this one call makes all the difference to me because the game was there to take with the game ending with Goff kneeling as the clock runs out.

I'm gonna guess there is no clock runoff if it benefits the offending team.

Speaking from a Stanford fan, this reminds me of when Shaw would take Luck out for certain plays and put in a "wildcat" QB. Sure, take out the best player on your team and effectively signal to the defense that you are going to run no matter what.

We should have done this! We should have done that! Living in a retrospect world and being an armchair QB is easy. Do you throw at the end of the game and if the pass is incomplete the clock is stopped or do you run and hope you make 6 yards and keep the clock running. I do believe there was poor clock management at the end of the game and that is on the coaching staff. Several things had to go right for Arizona for them to win and they did. College football is a great game. We just happened to be on the wrong side of the outcome.

That play call made absolutely no sense. Just tack it on to the myriad of 4th quarter blunders. I'm still PO'd about the loss. It should have never been that close.

Goff with 2 downs to make 6 yards would have been the smart move.. I was at the Fox for a concert and was tracking the game n my phone.. I thought my phone got hacked when I saw Rubenzer was inserted on the 3rd and 6 and then they tried a 47 yard FG. How f'n stupid.

Yeah, that was awful and very conservative. Conservative is not how our team is built and succeeds. With all our good WRs in man coverage I was pretty confident that Goff gets one completion in two tried for the first down then game's over.
