But there is way too much complaining goin on right now in here. I have been avoiding the BI since Saturday because it is ridiculous.

All these threads saying "oh its the refs faults because this" or "the play clock was off a little bit." Just shut up and except defeat. We were up by a ton late and didn't win the game. No ones faults but are own.

And not to mention the threads now bashing Sonny Dykes and the rest of the coaches after I saw many posts on here praising them throughout the game. We even had one thread that was titled "sorry Sonny."

Quit complaining because its embarrassing with everyone acting like a bunch of cry babies.

I agree. Rational critique or criticism is ok, but too many posts go over the line and devolve into bitching & complaining.

Get over it, & let's beat the Buffs! Go Bears!

+1 Yup. Losing sucks but way too much complaining for a team still rebuilding. Some people's expectations are unrealistic and complaining doesn't change that.

Oh great. Not only is there too much complaining, but now you've added meta-complaining to the mix! I hereby complain about your complaining about all the complaining. And if anyone wishes to complain about my complaining about your complaining about all the complaining, I'll be happy to complain about them too.

Given it seems a lot of the bitching is emotional, yeah too much complaining. I suppose it's good to get it out of the system but it doesn't change things. Sometimes you have to just suck it up and learn to win.

Damnit, you beat me to the meta-complaining post. I was having flashbacks to my philosophy days. I always do my meta-complaining in the forest, silently so no one can hear it. Then I wake up and realize it was all a dream.

Honestly, I'm turned-off by the "complaining" just as much as I am the opposite, on the other end of spectrum (exuberance regarding the team, coaches, players, etc.).

I find reason for optimism, clear improvement from last season. Last year we got in holes early, down big, game after game. Now, the complete opposite. Let's hope we can address this short-coming, and not have this one repeat for games to come...

+1 This year, we've been inconsistent, but "inconsistent" is a big step up from "consistently awful," which is what we were last year. If we can bounce back and handle the Buffs to get to 3-1, that will be enough for me (for now)...then again, it's not like we have any choice.

As I get a little distance from the gut-punch on Saturday night, the more I actually am encouraged by our D's performance. Yes, things went very, very poorly in the fourth quarter...but the first 45 minutes were quite good. I think a big part of the collapse was just a combination of a couple of injuries, fatigue and lack of depth. I'm looking for the D to bounce back on Saturday.

I told some friends a week or so ago that the team hadn't really been tested yet, and we were bound to lose at least one game in a heartbreaking manner, and that we'll have to see how the team responds. Well, now is the time.

Some people don't appear to understand the difference between stating a fact and complaining. I'll provide examples of both to help clarify:

Fact: "If the officials had called a penalty on Arizona for its infraction of an ineligible receiver down field on the last play, then Cal would have won the game."

Complaint: "I'm annoyed at the fact that the Cal coaching staff decided to run Rubenzer on 3rd and 6."

Fact: "Honey, you've put on about 10-15lbs."

Complaint: "Honey, I'm annoyed at the fact that you just kicked me in the groin."

I would point out that people have reasons for stating the facts that they do. The fact that one states a fact does not mean one is not making a complaint.

"Cal went 1-11 last year" is a fact. It is also a complaint. Don't kid yourself that most people who make that statement are not complaining when they do.
BerkeleyBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
People can cite facts in their complaints. However, facts alone are not complaints. Some people may infer a complaint from one's statement of fact, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the statement was intended as a complaint by the individual who stated it.

The fact that "Cal was 1-11 last year," may or may not be part of a complaint. For example:

Complaint: "Cal was 1-11 last year, and I'm very annoyed that Cal was so bad."

Not a complaint: "Cal was 1-11 last year, however, I don't follow any sports, so I couldn't care less."

Facts are facts...at issues aren't the facts but how they get mixed in with opinions, emotion and other random nonsense. Mostly however it's about tone and attitude.

I can state a fact but add some adjectives and modifiers and you can get this example: "Cal was a soul-crushing 1-11 last season and the loss on Sat was either a carry over or reflection and it pisses me off to no end. FIRE SOMEONE NOW!!!"

See how that works?

Look Cal lost. It was f*cked up but hell, time to move on and get ready for Colorado.

Man #1: I want to complain.
Man #2: You want to complain! Look at these shoes. I've only had them three weeks and the heels are worn right through.
Man #1: No, I want to complain about...
Man #2: If you complain nothing happens, you might as well not bother.
Man #1: Oh!
Man #2: Oh my back hurts, it's not a very fine day and I'm sick and tired of this office.

I don't think the issue is really about complaining vs. criticizing or stating a fact.
I think the issue is that when you express negative feelings about Cal when and only when Cal has just lost, you come off as being motivated entirely by your emotional reactions to negative events and hence not very level headed or objective.

When you then stay quiet during the off-season when making coaching changes is more appropriate, you further undermine your credibility regarding the concern about coaching.
If you want to be taken seriously, when and how you post makes a huge difference. Just keep that in mind when posting complaints, criticicisms and/or facts.

For example: "I can't believe Cal wore those stupid yellow uniforms and that is why they lost." Such a post or a very similar one qualified for a zero tolerance policy and an immediate addition to the ignore file because it was posted immediately after the loss. Even if the post was in jest, the timing of it was really pretty bad.

On the other hand: Oaktown and I have had some pretty heated debates about coaching and other long term issues at Cal. They usually take place during the slow moments of the off-season. Even though some of his posts strike me as a bit on the complaining side of things, I'm fine with that.
