Very happy for the team and for Sonny and all of us Bears. I don't buy or like Franklin at all.

Serious question: How much of the D's trouble is attributable to an offense that works very quickly?

seemed to be the issue in AZ at the end of the game, but we started poorly and played poorly most of the game today on D with sporadic good plays. So...hard to blame it on the O today

I wish he'd make fewer play calling mistakes. He hurts the team with those. I'll admit he's excellent at coming up with a scheme.

He does appear to be what this team needs right now with the defense still being a work in progress.

Are ya having more fun now, or did you have more fun in 2012 and 2013? Finally, a full deck of young players, many of whom make mistakes, but by God how exciting. Love it, but sweaty palms for 3 1/2 hours.

This offense next year with everyone returning is going to be a juggernaut on offense

With another year or two to recruit the players for TF system, Cal's offense is gonna just get better and better. Goff is really impressive and it's not just the system. He completes a lot of different passes - deep post, back-shoulder in red zone, bread & butter outs. The scramble TD to Anderson was really a surprise.

i mean, yeah, i'm having fun. of course. but the past 2 seasons didn't produce this kind of heart attack-inducing anxiety, which I still have to get used to.

The system also puts him in position to make these plays as well. But he is the best QB we've had since Rodgers. After next year we maybe able to say he's better than Rodgers. Or maybe after this year

I don't know if this was a Franklin call or Goff decision but throwing to the end zone on 3rd and long late in the game to score a TD to Harper took some serious gonads.

Ballsy. I think we tried the deep ball on 1st or 2nd down as well.

The 3-4 repeat runs a game are annoying. I'm referring to handing it off to the same RB right after he gets a big run. It never seems to be effective. I see it fairly often in the NFL too, but for someone as innovative as Franklin, I wouldn't expect him to do it so often.

I don't think you'll find too many coaches calling Franklin a 'genius' because of his scheme. He in fact runs one of the most basic and simplistic schemes in the Pac 12 with only a handful of plays run over and over. His scheme simply relies on spreading the field and creating 1 v 1 match-ups on the outside. If you have WRs that can win those 1 v 1 matchups and a QB that can deliver the ball you are going to put up some points. Guess what? We've got both of those and then some. I think Goff might be a really special QB. He has been dropping some absolute dimes out there. And Lawler looks like the real deal too. Lasco is also making some amazing plays out of nothing. Thus, we aren't really tricking the defense out of scheme. They know exactly what we're doing and just can't stop it because our guys are better. I think this will continue but will inevitably get more difficult when we face teams that have equal to better talent than us. Should be interesting to see what we can do offensively against Oregon, USC, UCLA, Furd, etc.

An example of 'scheme' beating a defense was Colorado's first TD. That formation confused the hell out of us and led to an easy TD. That's scheme.

I'm actually ok with that. And its one thing I've noticed that has changed from last year. I.e. going right back to the run after a running play just went for 6 or 7 ... if you can establish success that way with a lead late in games - it's over. And its all about keeping the opposing dc guessing. Of course if it's not working then it's not working ....

If Franklin were a genius he would've had Rubenzer run the play we scored on with the toss to Gingold last week on 3rd and 6.

All coaches are geniuses when their players make the plays. I like his calls, but plays like Goff's scramble and TD to Anderson make the coaching look even better. And that last TD throw in regulation was on the money, beautiful throw.

That was a very low percentage pass, especially the way their DBs were covering. It had to perfect and it was. Harper did a good job of keeping separation while looking back. He had to keep balance while doing it and that isn't as easy as it looks. I think it was the play of the game amongst many great plays.
Other candidates are the two lunging catches, one by Muhammed that went for around 40 yards to inside the 5 and the other to S. Anderson that evened the score at 49 with under 3 minutes to play.
Both of those plays required precision and perfect execution. Both were finger tip catches that were turned into long plays because they kept their feet. That isn't easy when lunging for a ball.
The Muhammed play showed great poise by Goff, who was sandwhiched on the play a split second after releasing the ball.
