I'm skeptical we're ranked. We haven't beaten any one of real note yet and we're less than a touchdown away from being 0-3 in conference (although a close loss against Arizona and the win over NU suddenly look a lot better). That said, I think we'll be in the "also receiving votes" section of both polls.

Based on our offense, I wouldn't say we're a joke. But our defense will keep us out of the top 25. Maybe we'll get a few votes, as our U of A loss doesn't look too bad now.

agree. undefeated team just knocked off #2 Oregon. and look at all the teams that were upset this weekend.
I'm afraid not. If we beat Washington and hold them to less than 50 points, then maybe.
Top four Pac12 teams take a step back, Zona goes up, and we're probably in the middle 30s.

I hope we can squeeze out those 2 wins! Schedule gets tougher from here! As exciting as it has been, Colorado and WSU are in the bottom half and we struggled mightily to beat both.

i'm just glad after our sh*t luck last year, some other PAC12 teams are also experiencing some hard times that hopefully we can take advantage of. (ex. Oregon and UCLA with crap OL)

Arizona is 5-0 and beat Oregon...you sure the schedule gets so much tougher? I think the conference is pretty awesomely awesome right now with how close everyone is.

Would be awesome and a huge milestone of the rebuild to get to a bowl this year. What bowl wouldn't be salivating to have us play our exciting brand of football in their event?

We lost to Arizona. We can't get too excited about a loss and the wins were against the dregs. Things will definitely get tougher from here on out.
+1. Respect this team. They play with heart. I say #25. The voting is about marketing of upcoming matchups...people want to see a ranked cal team go down.

We've just got to rise to the challenge. All the games are winnable. We beat WSU who beat Utah who beat UCLA. And we barely lose to UA who beat UO. That's why you've got to play the games.

Can't believe this is actually a thread, but FWIW, we haven't beaten a team with a winning record yet (though I think there's a solid chance NW is a bowl team by the end of the season).

Yup. No hurry. If and when we get a win over a "name" team we might get there. For now let's just enjoy being 4-1 after last season's debacle.
Seriously??? Have not had a win against a quality opponent. And there is NO defense, so that does not translate to a top 25 or 30 team

BYU looked bad, but i thought they could've come back with Hill in the game. with him out for the season, I definitely upgrade our chance of winning :beer:
the one big shocker to me was the Northwestern-Wisky match, and then the Arizona-Oregon game. those 2 i never could've imagined.

...because of the offense we have. I'm not saying we should be ranked but Mariucci's Cal team and Dykes' LA Tech team were both ranked at one point, and their defenses were just as bad.

It turns out Northwestern and Arizona weren't quite as mediocre as many posters here thought...
WSU is a very bad matchup for Cal, best QB/WR/offensive scheme combo we will face all year and very solid front 7. We match up better against most other P12 teams.
