When asked for my prediction of wins this year I said four, thinking I was an optimist. I did not see this coming.

I have enjoyed the first part of the season so much that I am ready to start eating now. How big a slice of the Humble Pie should I order?

No humble pie eating..we are still at four wins..and just a handful of points from being less than that..Like you, I never considered how potent our offense would get (big thanks to OL improvement) this year!

don't think that's entirely on you, wanabe. we were led to believe our schedule was going to be incredibly daunting. but coming into the difficult portion--relatively speaking of course--of our schedule, i now feel as if we have a shot to win any of them.

before the season, i also picked 4, thinking that hitting bowl eligibility @ 6 would be overachieving. now with UW coming up, and BYU looking to be a much more manageable game, 6 is shaping out to be par for the course.

None. There were so many with a like level of expectation that we'd quickly deplete the crow population if we all ordered up.

Is that a bad thing?

Find the recipe, warm up the oven but don't cook the pie until after this weekend. Beat the dawgs and then we'll start eating...

we're headed to a 7 or 8-win regular season, I see us finshing 4-3 or 3-4, based only on our performance in the first three conference games. If we keep improving we could do even better. The schedule is very nicely set up with 2 home games coming up taht could preserve and build up our momentum.

i think 4 was the majority consensus pre season, so you're in good company. Of course I'm not counting our additional wins just yet. Let's get this one on Saturday.

Don't feel bad, i said 3-4 and i thought i was being optimistic.
Now i am hoping for 6 wins. We are (may be) going into the toughest part of our schedule; but i think 2 more wins are do-able.
I hope that once again i am underestimating our Bears.

Um... I kinda wish you hadn't posted this... Football Gods and all that. Our opponents are getting more formidable and, so far, we've been fairly lucky with injuries.

Sure hope you're right. Let's enjoy the ride!

I was saying 4-5 with 5 being more likely... I have already adjusted to 6-7, but if we win this week then I think 8 may be the number! Incredible change with lots of room to get better with a lot of home games coming up!

We still have four wins and that's with an OT win and a major choke by WSU.

Remember in 2007 when we started 5-0 and we were ranked #2 in the nation after beating Oregon in Eugene? We finished 7-6 including losses to the last place Huskies and Cardinal.

This board has a tendency to count chickens before they are hatched and anyone who doesn't is branded as negative. Gee, why would anyone possibly be realistic about Cal football (or basketball for that matter)?

I don't believe it's the fact that they have 4 wins at this point that has people thinking 6+ is possible (nee probable), it's how they have gotten to this point.

(Most) Everyone tempered any expectations for the season with "how" they came out playing. It turns out they are playing better than expected.

Combine this with the weaknesses that the other presumed front runners have shown to date has everyone reconsidering expectations.

The lowest of these could be dashed, of course, but I sure don't see negabears spouting too much....the value to us all of "possible" is a great thing to have.

Our choke at Arizona was actually far bigger, 2 onside kicks lost and a hail mary allowed. WSU only choked a field goal, which was unexpected but hardly exceptional.

Point is, we took two conference opponents (including the current P12 leader and top ten team) to the last play on the road, there is no luck there. We bounced back from adversity after the Zona choke and have built up tremendous momentum. We're in first place of the division one third of the way through.

Do you remember Longshore getting injured on the final drive in Oregon and barely being able to walk and he kneeled down for the win after Ezeff saved the day with the fumble/touchback? Yea, man. That happened.

I would say that was a pretty huge contributor to that slide.

Excuses excuses. Starting QB goes down? No problem just 'man up'. ;-)

The team is just last year's injury rate away from being 1 and 4. Support the team with your attendance, and hope for the best.

That wrecked the season and eventually JT. That team would have been a 9 or 10 win team imho.

I don't know that you have to eat pie for predicting 4 wins. Heck, some posters would have called you a sunshine pumper for that. As a chronically under-informed sunshine pumper myself, I was not bold enough to make any predictions for this year's team; I'm just enjoying the ride. I was happy to have my personal homecoming for the Colorado game, glad my brother got to drive out for the WSU game, and am looking forward to attending the OSU game. Sure, we show our support by showing up and getting hoarse for our Bears.

Can they win tomorrow? Sure thing. But they can also lose. Every opponent remaining on the schedule has significantly tougher Sagarin and RealtimeRPI rankings than any of the four we've beaten, and we've all known the road would get significantly more bumpy after the 5th game. I like our chances tomorrow. Are furd, USC, and BYU posers? Time will tell, and momentum bites both ways.

I'm just enjoying the ride.

Go Bears!!! Beat the stinky pups!
