Difference between Leach and Sonny: Leach, being an old vet, cranky, felt they were too beaten up, or whatever, just let the clock run towards the end with around 3 minutes left without even trying to mount a defensive stop, touchdown, onside kick, etc.

Sonny, being younger and hungrier, or else just cut from a different cloth, would have been running around with his hair on fire trying to engineer a comeback.

Besides rolling over, Leach called a couple of time-outs when Furd had the ball, seemingly so Furd could score a TD. It made no sense or did I miss something? It was weird.

Not sure I'll go that far with the criticism. Had Leach not burned any TOs, time would have probably ran out without Furd scoring the last TD but also with zero chance of a WSU comeback. Calling the TO gave his offense more time to mount a comeback if the WSU defense would have made a stop.
