Erecting monuments or buildings to oneself does not a make a university ...
and how did he get all that money because I know of only one (1) person who has ever bought a pair of overpriced Nike shoes.

Are you seriously questioning the success or popularity of Nike as a shoe company by referencing your personal, anecdotal experiences?

Perhaps he's admitting that he has never met one of those types of people who predominantly play football and basketball for Cal?

Even pro athletes buy some of their Nike shoes unless their name is Michael Jordan, Kobe or Lebron and then even before they became pro they bought Nike shoes

Many of us have made a lot of money betting on Knight and his company. He is truly a marketing genius. Thanks for everything, Phil!

$1 billion? So $500 million to expand the football stadium to 80k, the rest goes towards building an athletes only campus, so that the football and basketball players don't have to interact with the regular students.

Just a smattering of people bought Nikes in 2013....LOL

Quote:

Strong demand for NIKE, Inc brands drove Q4 revenue to $6.7 billion, up 7 percent, or 9 percent on a currency neutral basis. Fiscal 2013 revenues from continuing operations were $25.3 billion, up 8 percent, or 11 percent excluding the impact of changes in foreign currency.

Amazing cast of Nike-philes on BI have emerged ... no longer silent supporters of UncaPhil's woregon boyz. :newnana:

They'll be a bit conflicted in a few weeks, wearing their Nikes, as UncaPhil's boyz invade Santa Clara. :p

At the end of they day, we got to stop stop envying other schools for their donations and have our own big donors step up. All this trash talking about others is petty. We are ranked in the top ten in number of billionaires and Oregon is not. Everyone got to stop going hysterical when other schools get donations by you know we wish we got them tool

What "trash talk" are you talking about?
If not expressing true love for UncaPhil and his Nike stuff on Bear Insider strikes you as "trash talk", you have work to do with your head.

Like your reasoning that you don't know how Phil made his money is rationale thinking from a sane person?

UncaPhil, according to confirmed reports, made and makes his money through SWEAT, but not his own. :p
I'm sure UncaPhil feels cosmic joy as he feels your love for him and his enterprises.
Kinda doubt the kids in those sweatshops feel the same love.

Thanks to my stockbroker uncle who got me interested in the market by starting me with investments in products I used as a kid (nike, pepsi, mc donalds) I was able to put down a fat down payment on my first home when I got married. Uncle Phil & Ronald McDonald are two of my best financial friends.

As for Nike shoes themselves, I love them! I got my first pair of Nike's in 1975 and have been very loyal for almost 40 years!

Didn't you ever hear of the "Hearst family."
Buildings, theaters, even a street.
They as much as everything "made" Cal.
(I don't know if "making Cal" makes up for starting their own war to sell more newspapers?)

Beating up little kids selling other newspapers, throwing them and their papers into the gutters, was a great tactic of Hearst.

These wealthy "benefactors" remind me of Mrs. Winchester ... keep building to wipe out the guilt, ward off the evil spirits.
