When I'm in an Irish bar I'll force myself to drink one or two, maybe four Guinness Beers. After that I lose track of the count. Luckaly there is always a ditch digger tending bar who can keep me straight.

Ha. Corona, modelo and pacifico all brewed by same company, grupo modelo. Which is owned by anhowsyer busch inbev, maker of bud.

Ima beer snob but I will drink any of the three with mexi food or on a beach, lime mandatory. It must be the commercials. Bud was my beer in college, I will also drink bohemia, negra modelo and dos equis lager. And i drink micheladas. Ok im a beer slut not a beer snob.

Mexican beer always tastes better there-it's a strange phenomenon because it's mostly bottled not draft. I always keep some Pacifico around for a quaff

Yes, it does. I so look forward to our vacation there in a few weeks. Nothing better in the world than fresh fish tacos and beer on the beach in Mexico. I'm gonna drink a hell of a lot of Michelada's too.

i miss the carts... nothing better than the instant gratification of pointing to something that looks good and eating it right away. i don't need ambiance, and I don't need presentation or upscale, i need good, tasty food that i can eat on demand.

I agree, as do most of my asian friends that grew up eating dim sum. If you have any recommendations of top tasting traditional cart dim sum places in the bay area, I'd be happy to try them.

Why you trying to go to Valley Fair Mall in the first place? Hot Dog On A Stick does rock tho.

Cool. The one in Arcadia is just not the same. Is there one in SF though that gives DTF Taipei a run for its money?

I agree. DTF in Taipei is excellent. The one in Arcadia is way too overhyped and you can find a few other plays that make the dumplings as well in Socal.

On a side note, what do some of you think of San Tung's (on Irving) chicken wings? Always a huge line and wait. I liked them more a few years ago, but now I feel it's just worth dealing with the crowds...

Big fan of the carts too. Few years ago went to an old school dim sum place in Boston's Chinatown which had carts and we all lamented their virtual disappearance in the Bay Area. Boston's Chinatown was surprisingly good-better than Oakland and NYC.

I can't answer your question as I've not been to DTF Taipei. Looking forward to trying DTF when it opens here. Can't believe it took them that long to open one in the Bay Area given the number of Asians here. Heck, there are TWO DTFs in Seattle!

The best XLB I've had was in a dim sum place in Richmond, BC; can't remember the name.

Do you remember where it is? I'll be going up to Vancouver in 2 months on another food tour and I'd like to add some more restaurants to my list.

San Tung wings are still da bomb! It is a PITA to get them, though. Easiest way is to call and pick up and have two people in the car, cuz parking around there sucks. If you eat in, you can go next door to the cafe and eat there.... the offer the full San Tung menu.

I went to Ireland in my mid-20's and Budweiser was the second most popular beer in the country at the time. It made me realize: people have crappy taste everywhere (also reminds me of the closing scene of Orange County, with Colin Hanks. He gets to a party at Stanford and the girls are all going crazy for that horrible Butterfly song).

It is surprising that people who chose Stanford have crappy taste?

I like their wings but I don't understand why they're a craze. I'm not a huge fan of wings to begin with however. I live relatively close to there so I walk by their fairly regularly and am always amazed by how many people wait in line.

Been to DTF in Xintiandi in Shanghai a few times. Liked the XLB. I liked the ones at Joe's Shanghai in Manhattan nearly as much. Not the same experience, but good XLB. I drop in for a snack when my wife is shopping -- one order of XLB and one wonton soup. And beer, of course.

The reverse is typically true. If you look into an Asian restaurant and it's full of white people, it's probably not particularly authentic and/or a huge ripoff.

What do you think of the Slanted Door then?

It might have been Kirin for dim sum or Shanghai River during dinner but I can't remember. In any case, those two places were pretty yummy IIRC. Have a great trip!

Compared to the San Gabriel Valley, SF dim sum is mediocre at best. Maybe there are areas outside of SF that are better, kind of like SGV >>>>> LA Chinatown.

I've heard Vancouver's dim sum is on par with SGV.

I think his point was most people have crappy taste. Which would explain why Furd is the most selective university in the world, and why their students go crazy over bad music.

SGV: it's mostly Monterey Park, San Gabriel and Alhambra. Has Rowland Heights caught up?

Yank Sing in San Francisco remains my favorite. Love the egg tarts specifically at Golden Gate Bakery (when they are open) - but for a good selection of delicious dim sum - its still Yank Sing for me.
