I agree. I never bet ON Cal... I did bet on a Cal (Oregon last year) game but just because the over / under was so ridiculously low. I felt that was almost a disinterested third party bet.

And there is one exception: You say that it makes sense to bet if you have inside information. The most likely team would be the team you care about. For example, I have much more inside information on Cal than I do any other team so I can be more accurate. That does not mean I bet on Cal, but I have been tempted. And there are times when I recommend betting on Cal games.

I suspect Cal will get a good line vs. Texas, for example and that may be a good one. I also think Utah is over-rated and I'm sure I'm one of the few that thinks so. So I am anticipating a good line there as well.

Bob Voulgaris says on a few Bill Simmons podcasts that if you think a team is going to do well against the spread, the best strategy is to just bet on them for every single game. He said this regarding betting on the NBA playoffs.

Currently at Cal -10.5. I still think it's a good bet. Took Cal -43 against Grambling, so I guess it's house money now ...

SDSU is the top team in its MWC division, they are the best team in that conference along with Boise. Remember Maryland *actually lost* to an FCS team the week before they beat us. I don't think this is going to be a cakewalk.

Their QBs were horrible yesterday -11/23 for 139 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT. Running game was better but still just 4.6 ypc and only 1 TD. Only 2 runs longer than 15 yards.

In 2008, we were ranked #25 and played an ACC team that had actually LOST to FCS Middle Tennessee by 10 pts at home the week before... Maryland scored only 14 pts against them, but they ended up scoring 35pts against us.

SDSU is going to win 8 or 9 games this season, they have a good shot at winning their conference. About as good as OSU and better than WSU this year. This is the biggest regular season game for their program this year...

Umm No it isn't..They are playing Penn State @ Happy Valley later in the season and I think they would view that as a "bigger game" even though PSU is in a fallow period after getting sanduskied.

Penn State just lost to TEMPLE, 27-10. Penn State is a Big10 bottom feeder at this point. SDSU doesn't play Boise St in the regular season, so Cal is the biggest game on their schedule. Bragging rights, P12 vs MWC etc. I bet their coaches have prepared for this game all summer.

has SDSU EVER beaten a Pac10/12 team on the road before? didn't they lose a bunch of key players this offseason?

their offense looks god-awful. should prepare us well for Texas

You will be happy to hear that I think we beat Stanford once on the road.

Also Oregon State.

I will have to check that for accuracy.

***I am not sure what our offense will look like this year, but I do know we used very little of the playbook vs USD.

Damn...Just looked this up and we did not beat Stanford on the road. We lost 17-10 in the game I thought we won.

In 1976 we beat Oregon State on the road 25-0. (But I think that game was played in Portland).

In 1977 we beat Arizona on the road 21-14. (But that was the year before they joined the Pac)

I would say we are over due?

I think now that WSU lost to Portland State, SDSU is now the third easiest game on our schedule. I worry more about Oregon State. SDSU's offense looks worse than Grambling's. They can't throw at all and their running game didn't exactly blow USD out of the water. I can accept that SDSU may have been looking ahead to this week and pay USD but still. Even if their defense is Pac-12 caliber, this should be a blowout.

If we are SDSU's first Pac-10/12 win in 35 years, that should tell you we are in for a long season and its Sonny's farewell tour. No need to sugarcoat it.

Maryland scored 10 points in their loss against Middle Tenn the week before they lit us up for 35pts. SDSU is as good as OSU this year, but more motivated and likely better prepared. This is a game we could definitely lose if we don't bring our A game.

Vegas Insider is reporting Cal favored by 12, with an O/U of 61. That translates to a 36-25 predicted Cal victory

96% of money bet on the spread is that Cal will cover the spread

MTSU wasn't at the time and still isn't an FCS team. In fact, they featured a DC (Manny Diaz) who would become a hot commodity in the next few years.
