Yup it's on Instagram too! Good to have him on board

The staff has really been getting it done in recruiting. Very businesslike, thorough and aggressive. Considering the seasons we had 2012-14, it's impressive. Even without the wins we're recruiting more depth than we did under Tedford (who could get the stars but never seemed to be able to fill the gaps or give us the depth to get us through the back end of the season - we saw how bad it was when he left, swiss cheese talent out there) Once the team starts winning we're going to see some solid, DEEP, top 25 classes.

Go Bears!!

We're recruiting better than JT did in 2012, but nowhere near what he was getting in the mid-00s, when he was beating out USC for recruits like Jackson. We need to get back to a point where we were regularly beating out schools like ASU or UO for SoCal talent and locking down local talent like Best or Lynch. Not to discount the current improvements, hopefully with the better results on the field this year and the staff getting acclimated to CA we should see continued improvements in recruiting.

Well-regarded QB then OT then WR, in-state, local and out-state ... great cross-section of EEs.
Well done, recruiting staff.

With a name like Jordan Duncan, how can you not play basketball?

Anyways, welcome to Cal!

I wonder if there's also a top recruit out there with the name Duncan Jordan.

So, these 3 super early EEs.

They count for last year or this year's class?

Funny, JT's mid-00s classes never produced on the field and we always suffered from chronic talent gaps and depth issues. I have no interest in seeing us go back to that kind of swiss cheese recruiting. We had one complete football team under JT - 2004. Most of those guys were Holmoe's (who was actually better at recruiting depth while JT would hit home runs with some positions and then completely whiff on others for years; Holmoe just couldn't do anything with his talent). The rest of the time our team was always missing key pieces (often including the guy behind center, JT has to hold some kind of record for 5-star QB busts) and would stagger at the end of the season because we lacked depth. 2013 was the culmination of years of poor recruiting by JT that gave us misleadingly high rankings while leaving entire units without even mediocre talent. I'd much rather have a 2-deep of all 3-star talent than the Frankenstein teams JT put together with "his" guys. No. Hell no.

Go Bears!!

If they had room under the 25 cap last year, I don't see why they wouldn't count it in last year's class. The EE athlete himself wouldn't lose any year of eligibility based on where we put him.

not just a matter of why they wouldn't; they'd have to. class of 2016 counters can't receive aid until August 1, 2016. only way for them to get in college on financial aid is by backdating them to last year's academic class.

That is genius. So this also means this years class gonna be huge and they making room for it

yup, EE is an absolutely necessary tool these days. no limits on how many you can EE, other than the size of the previous year's class, and the 85 cap total.

much easier to accept than telling kids to grayshirt. though for most kids around the country, i think EE is far less about "getting a jump on academics" as it is "getting a jump on college S&C, unofficial workouts, etc."

OFF ... Goff, Borrayo, Granado, Trevor Davis, Muhammad, Watson, Enwere, Noa, Coprich, Sonny... Lasco, Treggs, Lawler, Anderson, Rigsbee, Moore, Farley... Tedford

DEF ... White, Wilson, Kragen, Looney, Davis, Manley, Nickerspn, Downs, Allensworth, JJ, Kearney, Coleman, Walker, Piatt, Vanderbilt, Brown, Albert, - Sonny... Jalil, Barton, Jefferson, McClure, Barr, Lopa, - Tedford

I would say mostly this is Sonny's team especially on Def, but Tedford still has some very good big pieces as part of the puzzle. I think it shows mostly that Tedford really blew it with the Def having to have so few of his recruits still here and playing. Probably has some to do with our Def doing so bad when most of our starters and depth are from the last 3 years.

IMO it's pointless to try to credit Tedford or Dykes with recruiting Goff. If ever there was a guy who committed to Cal, not the coach, it was Goff. Same goes for Treggs imo. No way he doesn't flip last minute if he's not an Old Blue in his heart and soul. Just let it go and enjoy the ride, it's silly anyway.

Awesome. I've been worrying that the class of 2016 is getting too full too quickly. Gotta save room for the deluge of 4-stars we're going to attract after Cal wins the Pac12, wins the Rose Bowl, Goff wins the Heisman, etc., etc......

it's a 2-way street. commits may decommit, but the school may try to cut ties as well. there's a long way to go until NSD..bound to see some changes before then

Do you remember how many we signed last year that counted against the 2015 number? I wonder how many EE we can take this year.

beeasyed;842545501 said:

but yes, if we're really trying to backdate 6 guys, it would means there can only be 19 scholarship counters for 2015.

so we signed 24 guys. 4 of those guys were EEs in Bowers, Powell, Wilson, Brown (counts for 2014). we pushed Bankhead to greyshirt (future dated him for 2016). so while we "signed" 24 in 2015, subtract that by 5 = 19 counters in AY2014-2015. this number could be off if we ended up greyshirting a 2014 guy to 2015, in which case, thats one less to work with lol

if that's 19 total counters , then we could EE 6. assuming the counters are correct.**

***
For 2016, we currently have 22 commits. 2 have EE'd so far so in reality 20 currently would count for 2016 scholarships. we add 1 for Bankhead who was pushed to this year, so right now, we have 21 counters. if no one else EEs, we could only sign 4 more guys as it stands today.

of course we're going to max out the EE spots.....

2 things i'll note:

- **turns out we offered the punter Dylan Klumph a scholarship. so then it would be that we "signed" 25 guys in 2015, in which case we we can EE 1 less. in any case, guessing the true # is still around around 6. the staff sounds fairly confident they'll be able to create room.

- only thing i'd note is the bottom portion about 2016. now that we have 3 EEs, assuming they enroll as planned in January, we'd technically only have 19 current commits, not 22. which would means we could take 5 more in this class (have to subtract 1 slot for bankhead)

in an interview dated Feb 2015 where Klumph himself said initially he was going to be a walk-on, but after his performance at a combine, Tommerdahl offered him the scholarship.

Klumph said he didn't know if it would start in the fall, or the spring, but that he wouldn't mind if he had to pay 1 semester on his own.
