if we plan to win hope we rush their passer. hooray for deception and risk taking on both sides of the ball.

Again try watching a FB game instead of just complaining. We DID rush the passer and he BURNED us. After we got burned we switched strategies but still got sacks and a fumble recovery.

You have to play different against a speedster QB. Fortunately UWs QB is not nearly as dangerous and their receivers are not as good as UT so we'll likely see a lot more pressure up front.

We were also using 1 sometimes even 2 spies.

Plus it was clear that the dlineman were being instructed to stay in their lanes.

I'm so sick of the Huskies...tired of losing on the last play of the game and having a 100 yd FR....for some reason they are my most hated team in the Pac12 right now...

This will actually be another tough game. The huskies defense is possibly better than Texas D and also in hostile environment. First conference game, need the W

Goff needs less than 3 seconds; we just can't give their QB 4.

Petersen has worked some voodoo magic with that defense. loses all those NFL early-rounders, and still manages to get them improving every game this season. Browning looks way better in Week 3 than his pedestrian game 1 against Boise State.

2nd challenge for us, for sure.

Looks to be the best D we faced thus far...

Speaking of CP (and his magic), getting 8 regular season wins out of that squad in 2014, his first season there, while losing the Price / Jenkins combo, probably the best QB / receiver combo in recent history for UW, got my attention. He simply ran the ball more than any other Pac-12 team last year... Now defensive personnel challenges, yet the UW defensive unit looks to be improved.

If we light-up the scoreboard in Seattle, optimism should be high going-forward. And, this might be a rain game...

bring the house against the freshman qb. they couldn't run the ball against utah st. we can score, not necessarily "drop 50" but we will score

moon, going into Week 4, would you be as shocked about a loss to UW as you would've been in the preseason?

i daresay they look....average now :p

all the while pushing out bad apples...stringfellow, miles, hale, etc. despite losing his NFL talent, maybe their defensive unit is more cohesive with the continuity and experience under their staff.

no. they are super one dimensional on offense and their D hasn't played a legit O yet. that being said, looking at the PAC overall....no one plays super good D, they may be as good as we run into
chalcidbear

Before the season, I was chalking up the UW game as an almost sure thing (like WSU & OSU). Now I think it'll be close - a one score game. It will be our strength (O) vs. their strength (D) and our weakness (D) against their "medium" (O). May come down to special teams play.

So far this year, the Bears and Dawgs have had almost parallel seasons: blowing out an FCS team, winning by playing strong against a mid-level team, and playing a high quality team at an away game that was decided by 3 points or less.
Cal89

UW, now with a passer, unlike 2014, seems to be running less this year. They have not been a good running team thus far. Their run to pass ratio was highest in conference last year, maybe even for all of FBS.

Jake Browning, a true freshman, is looking really solid for them:

9.5 yards per attempt
66%+ completion rate
5/2 TD to Int ratio

Not exactly true freshman numbers...

He's not a runner, just 10x this season... Rattle this young man. Sacked 5 times over 3 games, so hopefully we can get at least a couple sacks. A pick or two also...

UW defense is definitely better than the Texas defense. I'm pretty surprised that Cal has opened as a slight favorite in this game. UW has just owned us up there it seems for a long time.

We got 3 sacks... if you are going to whine at least get it right.

This is going to be a tough game. Dawgs should be favored by the end of the week. Best defense we've faced this year, tough environment, and a freshmen QB who is rapidly improving and clearly the best freshmen QB in the conference. Plus we enter the game limping with some key injuries.

A win up there would be huge. We've lost 6 straight to them and it's important for us to end these streaks against teams that probably think they'll beat us forever (USC, furd, UW).

But this is going to be a tougher test than Texas for sure.

Seriously? Cal got 3 and UT got one.

You have it backwards. What's that shades of?

If Wilson can get back to full go that should help our pass rush substantially next week. He was injured on the first play but I don't know the extent of the injury. Does anyone know if Westerfield played?

Westerfield's in the DE rotation ... and is from Texass and must be having a wonderful Sunday.

we should apply pressure to their young qb. im old school. the best pass d is still a good pass rush no matter how athletic the qb is.

Washington hasnt played a solid team yet.

Cal wins by 3 to 4 touchdowns and it won't even be close.

I like your optimism Optimistic Bear. I think if we play an error-free game on offense and ST we win decisively. Our run blocking looked good, and with Khal and Vic there is not much dropoff from Lasco.

Forecast is dry weather and 66F, perfect football weather. It's a good thing we play them early in the season this year, weather-wise, though with El Nino winter we should probably get a lot of rain at home later this season.

Cal will not play error free. Most college teams don't. It would be nice to. It fumble inside the 5 for a change, but Cal is much better than Washington and this week will have been a good test for them to prepare for the road. Cal has also done a good job not getting cheap penalties which has been helpful.

How is UW on turnovers, picks, fumbles, etc.? That's usually what determines close games/match ups.

I don't know Cal's stats on that but it seems to be pretty good...minus some ST problems but they seem to have been addressed (see tipped PAT).

Did Cal's offense change to prevent tipped balls because that was an achilles heel last year.

Browning has 2 ints for 5TDs and 65% completion, though these numbers are padded by an FCS and a mid-major in their first three games (they lost to boise 16-13 on wk1). He had only 4yds per attempts against BSU, and they were held to 29yds on 22 carries on the ground.

They seemed to have found their groove against Sac State and beat a decent not great Utah St team 31-17. They should get around 60k fans for our game, but it won't be nearly as intimidating as the bigtime atmosphere at DKR stadium.
