The Good:
We won! I can hardly remember the last time I felt this good about Cal Football (probably Zack Follet's play against Miami at the end of the 2008 Emerald Bowl). Our defense stepped up BIG TIME! This game proved we can beat a halfway decent team, even without a very good offensive performance. Also, our kicker didn't miss anything (though his field goals were a bit rickety).
The Bad:
Today proved that our offense, while very explosive, is hardly unstoppable. Our receivers appear to have regressed a step from last year. They are still uber talented. But there were a ton of dropped balls. It looked at times as though they heard footsteps. Our O-Line looked bad at times. We need Lasco back. Our kickoffs and coverage really sucked (after the first kickoff). We are still without an impressive kick or punt return (much less a TD) this year.
Top 25?:
Maybe, but probably not until next week. Georgia Tech and BYU definitely drop out of the Top 25. But we currently sit at 29 (AP) and 35 (Coach's). We could use a little help from Hawaii (vs. 22 Wisconsin), Kentucky (vs. 25 Missouri), Ball State (vs. 17 Northwestern), and/or Arizona State (vs. 19 USC). Texas A&M and Zona might drop out if they lose, or they might hang on somewhere at the bottom of the Top 25. Regardless, it will be very hard to keep us out of the Top 25 if we bounce back and run up the score against WSU next week.
