Yes, turnovers are highlight reel. But what has impressed me is the tackling and postion. Last couple years any tine there was a bubble screen or throw to the running back in the flat, there was huge yardage forward. Not this year - Ubub game there was major losses. Given the inconsistent pass rush, the corners really have stepped-up this year.

Not only that but the coverage technique has been awesome to see. Darius White rotating his hips and then looking for the ball on his pick yesterday was textbook and a thing of beauty. I can see why he was rated the #1 JUCO DB in some services.

White with the overtake pick.
Allensworth with the punch-out fumble.
Coleman with the nice breakup on the long pass.
Walker blowing up WR screens.
Generally tight coverage by everyone.
Great job all around. All of their hard work is really showing.

Darius White is solid. Allensworth and the nickels have their moments. Wonder what happend to Dozier though; started every game last year, wasn't very good, but neither was anyone else. A guy with that much experience can't even sniff the field?

Starting to make the Lovett hire a smart move.

White has the two picks but I actually think he has messed up a few more times than Allensworth. I think Allensworth has been the most consistently good and White has been good with a few mistakes. Both are leaps ahead of what was going on last year.

Arm strength on tackles is a noticeable improvement. Several times in the game our DB's made arm tackles, some one handed. Don't think that happened once last year.

Yes much better. White has been really good, Allensworth solid. Cameron Walker has made big strides. His current role as a nickel back suits him very well. He was picked on a year ago, both on the field and on BI. Great to see his improvement. The tackling as you say is night and day. The starters need to stay healthy. IMO the backups are not ready for primetime. Drew's return yesterday was welcome. He is easily Cal's best option at safety opposite McClure.

With Wazzu coming up, this is all most welcome.

+1,000. I like Rubenzer, and I think/hope he'll improve, but there is a significant difference when Drew is on the field.

Yeah I love how people were questioning that move when it happened.

Let's see, what makes more sense. Having two wr coaches or two secondary coaches. Hmmmmmm

You have to give a bit hat tip to Kaufmann. We are doing things so much better than we did in year 1 and most of year 2 of the Sonny regime.

who else is responsible? Art? Lovett has been here for too short period of a time to get too much credit. But I do like that move either way.

yeah, I think the corners are good/solid
it's the safeties I worry about, especially against faster/quicker teams

Want to see arm and leg strength. You need to look only at Enwere and KM. both are much stronger than last year.

A shoutout to two less known players with big futures. Caleb Coleman, a very speedy DB and Marcus Manley for stepping in at DT and doing a great job.

Actually I think Walker is doing even better than Coleman at the nickel position.

Cam Walker should always be remembered as the 165 pound freshman Cornerback, whose 'shirt was burned as he was sent on the field to play Safety, with zero experience or practice at the position. Kudos always to Cam.

I think we are in good shape when Drew and McClure are on the field. The falloff is dramatic with the backups though. I don't think Rubenzer or Piatt have the requisite speed. Vanderbilt sure passes the eyeball test but he must still be learning. Haven't seen much of Derron Brown - maybe next year.

Marcus Manley caused a fumble at critical time. Active and improved on the line.

Coleman is a Soph, saved the Oregon State game last year with an interception and 4th down tackle.

Having two offensive GA's who were D-1 starters at WR/H-back (Gru and Hagan) helps provide depth of coaching at WR so that replacing Ingram may not have been as critical. Coach Dykes and Franklin are making all the right moves. GO BEARS.

Not to mention burl toler, whom a lot of people would have been fine with replacing Ingram in the first place.

Albert's the primary backup corner and yes, he's played this year.
