Game is on P12 Network; since I'll be there, I won't be watching, but please no more threads about how the announcers are biased against Cal. It may or may not be true (mostly it isn't true in my view), but it doesn't matter one bit. As long as they call the game reasonably well (in the case of Ted Robinson, of course, that isn't the case), who cares? Also I don't think that the "bias" that people see is not hatred of Cal (Cal fans are so thin-skinned) so much as the desire for a particular narrative. Goff is the Big Dog right now, and the last two weeks have seen us go up against freshmen QB's. The "interesting" narrative is the new kid besting the Big Dog, so naturally, there is a bit of wish for that on the part of the rating-whores. Let's give it a rest, though.

No, the thread I hope I REALLY don't want to see early evening on Saturday is entitled, "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?"

Does anyone like any announcers? Other than Vin Scully, who is more of a museum piece, I can't recall anyone who gets positive reviews. I admit to enjoying Gus Johnson's style- he's better at March Madness

Maybe I am somewhat biased but ESPN commentators are bearable but the guys on FOX Sports and PAC-12 Networks are complete trash. Even Barry Tompkins who has been relegated to calling FCS games on local TV is way better than the crap I hear lately. Gus Johnson after a while is pretty awful too.

After seeing him ringside in Rocky IV, Barry gets a lifetime pass from me.

I admit I hated having him call our games during the old Fox Sports Net broadcasts because his color guy was the horrendous Petros Papadakis, but now it's Joel Klatt...Christ.

Exactly....BI is no different than any other forum...whining and crying about announcers unless they are total homers for THEIR team. I'll bet if any poster here became an announcer, they'd be equally as shitty and bias as anyone else...just something else to bitch and complain about. I'm surprised anyone hates Petros Papadakis. They guy is almost a total homer for Cal and get pretty good reviews from most corners. Oh well, carry on.....

P is awesome. He always gets in a Top Dog or La Burrita reset on any Cal broadcast.

or you know, that referees in every game hate us and are against us. and that we never get holding calls, that the other team always gets away with it.

"These Big-12 refs are OBVIOUSLY trying to let Texas win. oh wait, they're Pac12 refs?"

If I have learned nothing else from Internet message boards, it's that national sports announcers are biased against literally EVERY TEAM IN THE COUNTRY.

For example, fans of every MLB team that has made a deep playoff run since Joe Buck became the lead announcer at Fox think that Buck hates them. Literally everyone: Giants, Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, even the Cardinals fans think Buck is rooting against them. This despite the fact that Buck grew up in St. Louis and both he and his father served as the Cardinals' play-by-play man, nope, he's biased against the Cards.

Face it, folks -- it's confirmation bias. The national announcers don't care about your team in particular, they just want an exciting game.

Same is true of the officiating. It's funny see our threads about getting jobbed by the refs, and then go to the other team's boards and see them saying the same thing. Confirmation bias for sure.

Pretty sure this thread just guaranteed a TV analyst bias thread in 2 days.

How about not seeing "Our team sucks. Our coaches suck. We have the worst OL in the history of CFB" when we are down 0-3 in the first quarter?

Except me.

Well, I can't speak to MLB, but I don't mind Buck.

There were complaints that he was too indifferent during the first Eli Manning Super Bowl, but he's improved on that front.

He just doesn't annoy me.

The only guy who really annoys me is CBS' Spero Dedes, who has this really annoying accent.

I don't know if this clip quite captures it.

The only good thing about Joe Buck is that Tim McCarver was put into a home.

Mussberger and Herbie are a good duo on play by play as long as Brett doesn't have to comment on anything out of the game

I actually don't mind Buck either. In last year's MLB playoffs I thought he was much better now that he's not dragging Tim McCarver around as an anchor. His deadpan works a lot better next to Harold Reynolds' hyperactivity.

Unfortunately, Troy Aikman gives him no help on NFL broadcasts.

National announcers I like? Sticking with football, I'll name Gus Johnson of course. Mike Tirico is a good play-by-play man. You can't knock Al Michaels either, pure professionalism. Good analysts include Cris Collinsworth, Kirk Herbstreit, and Charles Davis.
