Great, we can roll a lousy team down to there 3rd string QB. We could have won that game with any of the high school QB's in the area, let alone the ones on our roster. I'm not impressed with the 760 total yards. Get 500+ next week and then talk to me. Score 35 points next week and then talk to me. Keep Goff upright next week and then talk to me. Hold Stanford under 200 yards rushing next week and then talk to me. Throw half as many TD's next week and then talk to me. Play a game with 1 turnover next week and then talk to me. Show me we have at least scouted the Stanford offense - hold Hogan under 75 yards rushing and then talk to me. Keep McCaffrey from having 300+ yards of total offense and then talk to me.

Working the clock?!! OMG, we should have been working the clock more towards the end of the 3rd and in the 4th. Absolutely absurd to be snapping the ball with 15+ seconds on the play clock under those circumstances. I almost had to turn it off. For $5 million a year you would think our coach would have a sense for when milking the clock is just as important or more than getting points. Whoever is calling the plays should understand this. We've got serious problems that Stanford will expose next week. I predict we'll have more pass interference penalties than TD passes. It's not going to be pretty.

What's disturbing about how the game was managed was that the starters were left in to risk injury. Maybe they were trying to pad stats to make them and the TFS look better. That is very disturbing especially since similar circumstances are what led to Lasco being injured to start with (SDS game).

I agree that it's not going to be pretty. We'll be manhandled by Stanfurd. Won't be close.

Basketball season is here my man. For football..just enjoy the small victories at this point. Completed passes, running the ball well, not fake punting, near interceptions..these are things we can cheer our team for. Don't go in expecting a win, we are likely gonna get smoked. I just hope the kids come out of the game healthy. Also have a backup plan if the game goes badly...pick a nice restaurant to hit up...or a movie. Get something out of next weekend other than high blood pressure ;p.

Yup. The Bears ended the losing streak and stopped the bleeding. We're bowl eligible. Given how lousy I was feeling last weekend, I don't care how bad OSU is now - I'll take these shreds of positive news.

The Bears are going to a bowl. Folks this is a VERY good thing. VERY. Beating Furd would be the best deal in years, but damn it, Dykes got the Bears to a Bowl game. Our job is to sell it out. I went to the Insight Bowl in 2003. This will be like that, though we likely won't play a team like Va Tech. I can't wait. Called a roommate today, he's all in. As are my Cal brothers. This is exciting. I think Furd will win big. I don't think Cal has a chance. But there is a bowl game.

I love your posts. I assume that you are a Cal fan, and a season ticket holder/donor, as am I. I left CMS last night, speaking to players as they left the stadium. And I told them exactly what you have so eloquently said. We suck. I even suggested that they concede the next two games.

Becoming bowl eligible would have been exciting a month ago. Now, we only have two blowout losses and a lousy bowl in late December that no one cares about to look forward to.

Hard to say. We struggled with them for most of the game and it seemed mystifying and foreboding. As it turns out, they are good and he game makes a lot more sense now.

It's more difficult reading these angry inconsolable rants than it is to watch us lose on a last possession or getting beat up for 28 points in a single quarter.

I listened to a radio show on the whole Pac-12 before all the games Saturday and heard some really sane analysis about us.

D is much better. Much. BUT we are still physically outmatched in many positions against good teams that will take time to overcome.

NFL ers actually like Goff MORE after this 4 game stretch. Resilient, tough, doing some really good things in the pocket even though it's collapsed on him and tighter coverage etc.

Hogan is under the radar specifically with respect to his skill set and how well he can plug into NFL schemes no one comes close to top of mind when it comes to a lot of modified west coast styles in NFL now. But not going to project how well he will do in the NFL admittedly.

Dykes done a great job. Got them playing football and getting a lot out of what he has.

You raise a number of topics. I will address only the issue of burning the clock. I disagree that milking the clock was more important than points. OSU did not quit and kept scoring even when down by 3 or 4 TD's.

In the past people on this board criticized Sonny for taking his foot off the gas pedal and trying to burn the clock (as against UA last year). On Saturday I was afraid that a Sonny would stop going on the attack and Cal would find itself once again fighting to hold on to the lead in the closing minutes.
I for one was happy that Sonny learned his lesson.

Although, the Oregon State game doesn't really change my outlook on the rest of season (Stanford is very doubtful, ASU is a 50/50), I don't see why you feel compelled to discredit everything the Bears did. The first step in accomplishing something big is accomplishing something small. Blowing out a bad team and becoming bowl eligible qualifies as something small. Its not the final step, but it is a first step, particularly when you've been slipping backwards.

Agreed. For better or worse, the offense is what it is. It's not built to pound the ball on the ground and burn clock. May as well just keep running the normal offense; more points on the board will put the opponent away just as well.
