Please just entertain me with why you are standing behind him at this point? He's obviously looking for a way out.

Because I don't trust who the "donors" choose as our next coach.

I don't blame Sonny for looking around, if I could double my pay (and get big increases for my staff) I would certainly talk to some people before signing another deal at my current spot!
With the twitter stuff, who knows how much is real/fake, etc. Most of these guys are just throwing out names trying to get clicks/followers. For example, we know that Tedford coming back is clearly not happening, some guy with no knowledge of the situation just threw that out there!
I don't know if Sonny is the greatest coach in the world, but he has turned around an academic dumpster fire, brought in quality guys, and we are improving. All for the lowest salary in the league.
At this point, I just want a resolution in the next day or so, we need to focus on recruiting and this indecision will cost us recruits. I agree with those who say we need to give him a deadline on signing the extension.

Dykes should be defended because...
[LIST=1]Tedford left such a mess 1-11 year should be forgotten because Tedford left such a mess Horrible hire Andy Buh is Tedford's fault, because he left such a mess. Dykes can't possibly be blamed Terrible Special Teams play is Tedford's fault, because he left such a mess 5-7 year is amazing achievement, because it's an enormous improvement over 1-11 Cal defense setting NCAA records, for the wrong reasons, is Tedford's fault, because he left such a mess 7-5 this year is achievement beyond measure and Dykes deserves all the glory. The two blowout losses are Tedford's fault, because he left such a mess Goff's great play is a testament to Dykes' great coaching ability. His erratic play in the 5 losses are Tedford's facult, because he left such a mess OL woes are obviously not Dykes' fault, because Tedford left such a mess Dykes fixed graduation rates that Tedford messed up so badly. Besides, 3-9 is OK as long as Cal remains "Yale of the West."
Tedford left such a mess, so it doesn't matter Dykes gifted Cal with 0-12 against Stanford, USC, UCLA, and Oregon. It was Tedford's fault. Ergo, Sunshine Dykes deserves a raise, an extension, and a fair chance to make Cal the next Oregon State.

at this point, with all the crap in the twittersphere, I've become ambivalent, and am somewhat interested in who a new coach could be. Without the mental check or moving on stuff, I was fine with him coming back. On the other hand, if admin turns out to once again go for a cheap option, I won't be too happy. Cheap to me means not providing the necessary capital to hire capable asst. coaches.

He's the best coach we can get and if you don't agree your flat out wrong

This board is so amusing at times like these. Why do those wanting him fired care what "Dykes defenders" want? They don't appear to care about anything but their unhealthy obsession of getting him ousted.

We should keep Dykes. I mean look at all of the success Keenan Allen, Desean, Marshawn, Rodgers, CJ Anderson, etc. are having in the league. Oh wait..

1. All the past cr*p is just the way business is conducted in sports now-a-days.
2. He has proven himself to be a competent (if not yet a great coach).
3. If he leaves Cal takes a hit on recruiting and significant hit on W-L record.

Based on the data below, and a positive culture shift in the quality of student-athletes in the program, why would you not reasonably expect similar improvement next year? Most would agree that there is a clear football talent gap that exists between us and the upper-half of the conference, which needs to be addressed, and which will take more time. But Sonny has done everything he was hired to do, and there's no reason to think that the positive trend won't continue next year.
